Hi guys,
Since its winter now I've noticed that my brakes have started to squeak really badly. Mainly the front but the rear at very low speeds. Its kept in the dry overnight and under cover during the day so its not too exposed. However my brake disks are showing signs of surface corrosion. Not on the actual pad surface but towards the mounts and the very edge. Is there something I can do to stop this? Im just concerned that it may get worse, and then it might get expensive.

The disks are original 2010 Kawasaki with plenty of wear left in them too. Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers Guys! Thumbs Up

Generally, rust on disks is a sign that they have a high iron content = good.

It should disappear when you ue the brakes.

Sandpaper or brillo pad on the discs.

Squeaking, I'd give the pistons a clean.

Could well just be brake dust, give 'em a wipe with a cloth wetted with methylated spirit, cheap at Wilkinsons .

Brake squeal is likely from the pads rather than the disc, try refitting them with a little copper grease smeared on the back of them.

Use a thin smear of copper grease on back of pads, as already mentioned.

My brake discs show slight corrosion overnight. Scooter used every day, left uncovered at all times. But brake discs are a consumable. Unless the corrosion is bad enough to affect your ability to remove the disc down the road (and that implies affecting the fasteners rather than the disc proper), I wouldn't worry about it.
