I hate Christmas but get sucked into the whole thing every year. Anyone manage to escape it? Is it even possible to escape the madness?

Christmas Day I am on call. So I shall spend the down time working on the bike.
I are not doing Crimbo.

Yes, it is possible. For a start, don't watch TV. Don't do any shopping other than what you would normally do, i.e. food, groceries etc.; do that early, and get enough in to see you through the whole depressing mess, and don't buy Xmas puds, cakes, turkey etc. Don't post on Xmas themed threads on internet forums, or even read them (oops! Laughing ). Stay indoors and read a book. Don't attend work's Xmas do. Ignore it, and it will soon go away.

Unless you've got kids. Then you are royally fkd.

I've book a shift on the ambulance on Boxing Day.

Then it's back to normal for me.

Christmas Day will be pretty chilled. Last year I spent it servicing the car. Chilly, but amazingly peaceful!

I celebrate the winter solstice a la Saturnalia. Happy holidays and all that. I don't go out on 25th at all.

Yes, we have a Christmas tree and presents will be there for my children, but apart from that it's like any other day when I don't go to work.

Nobody will be visiting us, we won't be visiting any family either.

I don't watch TV, except for Instant Video from Amazon from time to time. I don't think that will change for this particular day. Kids play blu-rays most of the time anyway. I'll be most likely watching Kung Fu Panda for 244th time.

Food will be pretty much the same.

A bit more attention for our kids, but that's about it.

So no madness here really Thumbs Up

As already stated in the 'I hate christmas' thread, I'm in China and have classes on Christmas day. I'll have rice for lunch and noodles for dinner. Then I'll go to the library and study for the exams I've got next week.

Absolutely fantastic Cool

I'm kind of not ... but I'm quite liking having the opportunity to opt out.

So I've bought *some nice food* which Bruno and I can eat our way through in the next 48 hours: I've already made myself feel slightly bilious by eating a packet of M&S "Snowy Road" last night and a box of Mr Kiplings Frosty Fancies for breakfast this morning. Sticking it to the white chocolate theme this year ... Puke Someone gave me a tin of those revolting Belgian seashell chocolates which I can nom if I fancy a bit of milk chocolate.

I could go back out to Asda and buy some more "Christmassy bits" this afternoon at the knock-off price, just before they close, but really - do I need them? Does my waistline? I think not.

I know myself well enough to know that I'm probably too lazy to wrap up warm enough to get on the bike and go there.

Got milk, telly, internet, book, coffee, cake, bacon. So 48 hours of dog walking, daytime sleeping, in-bed-book-reading, and internet-poking-about in places that I normally don't have time to go. If only classic FM wasn't playing constant Christmas carol shit, life would be perfect.

Only thing I'm really annoyed I haven't got is a bit of puff. Could have done with getting gently wasted. Got plenty of booze in the house, but can't be doing with the hangover.

Undecided whether I'll do anything yet. The prospect of my stepmother's awful cooking and an audience of some old people doesn't really appeal to me much. So I'll probably stay by myself for the next few days.

But this means you're going out of your way to not "do Christmas," which in a way means you are doing something for Christmas.

I conclude that it is impossible to escape.
