Hey guys,

I had to replace my speedfights Bendix starter drive because the spring on the last one snapped..
The new one is fitted, but sometimes when I try and start it, all I can hear is a spinning sound from the kick start area and it doesn't start, but when I kickstart+electric start at the same time, it seems okay, but sometimes it doesn't. There is also a rattling noise when I have my brake held.
Anyone know why this is happening?

Could you tell me what I did wrong? I have seen in other forums that the drive may need to be lubricated.

You put the thrust gromet on backwards and on the wrong side of the flange-lifter.

you replaced the bendix, why?

were the teeth fucked where it engages the starter ring gear or the starter?

the teeth on the starter wear aswell, if you can hear it spinning it may not be engaging the bendix

The spring on the last on snapped.
No, the teeth all look to be in great shape. Now I've rode it more, it seems to be engaging straight away but now it rattles sometimes.

When I electric start, sometimes it will just spin and I had to do a kickstart+electric start in order for it to start.
Now it seems to start instantly.

Try kickstarting it on its own, not with the electric start.
As for the issue not starting with just the electric start, i can't help you with that.

Tried doing that today, it get's stuck half way when coming back up and sometimes won't go down fully.
I now know the main problem is the Bendx drive isn't coming all the way out to hit the cog and start the bike.

sounds like its not fully returning & thus not disengaging.
I had the same problem with my sons bike. The outer case 8 holders must be firm & I think there must be a return type washer?? that ensures it drives back to the start position.( like a cog with a ball on the end of it)- They sell them at pedparts.
