So I saw that from 2020 there will be new taxes for Euro3 standard bikes going into the ultra low emission zone in London. My current workplace is just in the boundary so I could park just outside, but better to be prepared to get a new bike (my 2009 Ybr250 will be a bit old by then anyway). If I understand correctly euro 4/5 bikes will come to market a year or 2 before 2020. Would they be significantly more difficult and expensive to make?
Then there's also the choice of electric. They cost a lot to buy but running costs are low and presumably it's exempt from emissions regulations. I hope battery costs come down in the meantime.

In 2020 I will be ridding without a plate if I visit london, but sods law it will be everywhere Mad

Its a load of shit. Old bikes have to pay £12/day for relatively few emissions, while a bus pays £100/day, and is churning out far worse emissions all day long.

Where is the incentive for buses to be upgraded/replaced?

How do the emissions per passenger mile compare for London buses and motorcycles?

It depends on the criteria for measuring emissions.

Are you measuring only vehicle emissions from combustion, total emissions, total lifetime emissions, infrastructure emissions etc ?

Interesting question, as many different measurements as possible should be included to get the most accurate answer but I assume finding all the measurements from a reputable source is nye on impossible?

By picking and choosing which statistics to include in the calculations, it'd be fairly easy to manipulate the order of how environmentally friendly different methods of transport are.

Indeed, which is why cars like the Prius don't have the lightweight carbon footprint all the cardboard cut out eco mentalists want us to think they do.

The proposed ULEZ could have far reaching consequences for everyone, not just those that live in or near London, since it could become the model for other British cities.

As I understand it, we have a right to voice our opinion on the TFL website, but only until the middle of January, so if you're remotely interested, take a look and write a post.
