Welcome to BCF. What exactly are you bringing to the Forum? Oh, I see, nothing. You're asking us to help you.....I get it.

'Tis the season of goodwill blah blah, so I took a look at your survey.

You've asked "straights" to complete it yet all the questions I looked at are asked from a LGBT perspective, making it impossible to answer them. That's if the impenetrable language doesn't put people off first.

For example

1. Some people engage in strategies in order to not appear LGBT+. Please indicate whether these items apply to you, only counting times in which you do this to not appear LGBT+ (irrespective of whether you are or not).

WTF?

Thanks for taking the time to fill it out. The questions can be filled out by straight people. That question can be answered by anyone as some straight people do things in order to avoid "looking gay". That's why it's phrased that way rather than "in order to hide that you are LGBT+".

If that is something that you do not do yourself there is an option to reply as such.

All of the questions have a purpose, even if that purpose is not obvious at surface level. If you're not comfortable filling out any questions, so skip that question and as long as it's not too many the data should still be useful.

The later questions in the survey are much more general.

Okay, thank you for looking at it and considering filling it out

No, I am not on any youtube videos (although possibly that comment was making fun of me and is going over my head)

As a member of the "LGBT+" I got bored filling it out. I lost count of the number of pages and honestly I cannot even tell you what it was about.

All I seem to recall was blurb about gender identity cropping up throughout it.

Probably not the best forum to post on.

I'm a guy, I like cars, I like motorbikes, I get oily and scruffy. I just happen to like other guys.

Mumsnet might be more fun...

Your survey is flawed, it asks questions about how many times xyz has happened, blah blah blah and the multiple choice answers don't have 0 as an option.

Anyway, I'm in a good mood so I'll fill the survey out multiple times. Thumbs Up

HI Ste,

Please only fill it out once. The numbers correspond to the defintions at the top of the page. (e.g. 1 = The event has NEVER happened to you). That page is a standardised questionnaire that I did not design.

I'm me. Razz

I believe that the politically correct term is "CIS", which avoids the issue of presenting heterosexuality as the correct state.

Trust me, I've been on Tumblr.

I was going to post the "Die cis scum" guy, but then I found this in the comments section of the KYM article, and my day was made:

Cis means non-transgender, although I generally avoid the word when talking to cis people as it tends to confuse them. Smile

Tut Tut 'cis' is a derogatory term used in a similar fashion to the 'n' and 'p' words which are now considered not acceptable.

Great offense should be taken by it's use!

"What sex were you assigned at birth."

Makes it sound like we're all part of some kind of ant colony where our path in life is determined in a way that we may disagree with later on. Sounds like every LGBT person should hate the entire human 'system' for the way they were born, as if all of society is to blame for the gender they were given.

"The people you are sexually attracted to - males/females"

For an LGBT quiz, I find it odd that there isn't a choice for that kind of 'chicks with dicks' middle ground . Even on this forum there have been discussions about general sexual attitudes towards those sorts of people. Surely it's a recognised niche. Yet the survey neglects it!

"As a child I felt masculine/feminine. Among my peers I felt more masculine/feminine."

In all honesty when I was child I had no idea about gender roles and male/female identity. I want to say I felt masculine but honestly I remember treating all of my fellow kids in the same way regardless of their gender, yet I was always very much a boy. I didn't 'feel' that I was a male though. Strange question.

"How many times has 'XXX bad thing' happened because you were known as or perceived to be LGBT+"

Loaded, biased question. Classic case of a failure screaming that they were only knocked back because of social prejudice, rather than they were just shit at the thing they were trying to do. "People only hate me because I'm fat/ugly/gay!"

A lot of the questions were kind of vague. Like the last lot about how my daily life is affected by anxiety and other mental issues. The scoring system was too vague and the bit at the end of those pages was too 'all or nothing'.

-----------------

I agree with what was already said: The questions are all aimed at LGBT folk. It's all about their opinions and experiences. There's nothing here for me to answer. It's pointless.

I answered all the questions but I don't think the results really represent anything useful at all, I hardly felt like my answers represented 'me' in any way.

Also it seems to be geared towards the preconceived opinion that all LGBT people have a hard time dealing with themselves in society . Is this survey accidentally biased by a reflection of the author's own experiences?

OP, if the quality of your questionnaire structure is anything to go by, then you deserve to get flayed in your viva.

Loking at the first survey page...
On my original birth certificate it said 'male'.
This does not mean, I expect, that'd I'd have been treated any differently to if it said female - they gave me no action men or barbies and I don't believe I had specifically blue (nor pink) clothing chosen.

So I was not, I'm afraid, 'assigned a sex' at birth.
Rather, on my birth certificate the gender correctly represented the fact that my body was that of a male.

(I'm always amused that a society that at one point claims to be so against pigeon holing, insists on doing exactly that Rolling Eyes - why can't the stereotypical* LGBTer accept that EVERYONE is different and try and insist the way someone fits must fit into some of their predefined boxes?)

* I say stereotypical because the normal ones in my experience tend to be getting on with life and not making a fuss over stupid categorisations and acronyms.
</rant>

Anyway, if this really is approved by the said organisation, it reflects poorly on them.
