Just been to see a bike with view to buy. Gave it the once over and quick rev up in the car park. It's a mint bike and I'm really keen on it. Dealer wants ££4700 for it and isn't willing to budge.

How would you suggest I play this? Should I give an offer and stick with it or pay the asking price and push him for extras?

The bike is in perfect order and has tons of very expensive extras. Frankly speaking the price isn't that far off the stock models of similar year/mileage. But of course I want to get the most for my money hence the request for advice.

Thanks

I bought my Sprint on NYE - got it ~£700 cheaper than any of the same age / mileage I could find, and even those without the panniers.

How? Salesman wanted to close the deal out before the end of the year.

I'd suggest playing that angle.

Personally I've found dealers are not very likely to budge on prices of the bike itself. However, I managed to get a new helmet to match and gloves thrown in with mine. Especially if your doing it on finance it can be written into the total amount on credit.

It wont hurt to ask if they would include a few extras in the price. Seeing as you chose them after all. You could have gone to another shop and done exactly the same. If they truly want your custom and are a reputable dealer, I find they're usually more than willing to help, even if its not money off the bike itself. Try even asking for a service to be thrown in.

Asking never hurts Smile Thumbs Up

Best of luck!

Thanks for replies.

Dealer is well established and have a good reputation from what I know. They've already said they'll do a full service and stamp the book before sale.

I might ask for a pair of gloves and free delivery as getting to them is a ball ache for me (50+miles away).

Sounds like a sound plan. The cost of even an ace pair of gloves in peanuts to a dealer when selling a bike. Dont forget some photos! Wink

Offer 4000, pay 4300.

If he doesn't take it then walk away, but it does depend on how much you want the bike.

Depends what bike. If its one I REALLY wanted, I', happy to try and haggle some free bits like the Triple, got £100 off and a full service with proof and stamped before picking up.

Your bike is currently about £600 more than my triple was, which means its gonna have to be bloody amazing as I don't know why you would spend more for less bike Whistle

I would expect nothing less, and wouldn't be thinking of this as an extra/deal sweetener. That's assuming they actually do more than throw new oil and filter at it. You say they're reputable, so hopefully they'll be good on their word with this.

You won't get that if buying from a dealer.

If its in your budget and exactly what you want then just get it. No point leaving it just coz you cant get a few quid off and you end up getting something not as good for a bit cheaper.

Good luck with that!
Like others have said, I have never had any joy with a main-dealer shifting on price, but they have thrown in all sorts of goodies - Datatagging is always a good one, if it's not already done. New gear too, aim high they can always say no.

So... Happy with the outcome and deposit has been paid.

Got delivery and a pair of gloves thrown in for asking price.

The bike, Paddy, is a 2013 GSR750. Extras include Puig belly pan, R&G crash bungs, R&G tail tidy, adjustable levers and heated grips.

Having seen and still seeing similar bikes with no extras going for more I think I got a decent deal. Regardless, I'm well chuffed with it.

The catch? Well I can't pick it up until the insurance pay out on the ninja so I can pay the balance. Could be days or even weeks. A bit annoying.

Had the courtesy bike about 6 weeks now. Problem is the third party haven't yet taken liability. They've offered a "payment without prejudice" in the interim while they continue their investigations. Even that will take a while yet me thinks as they keep pushing the salvage onto me.

Was that the c**t that drove off? That's what I received (payment without prejudice), for the value of my bike but the claims still ongoing.

I got the cheque quite quickly, dunno how much your hire bike's costing but it'll probably end up costing thousands so dunno why they don't want to get you off it.

Keep hounding them for the monies!

The very same cant.
I think what's taking ages is that I don't want the bike back as salvage. They initially processed the offer to include salvage so now it's becoming a ball ache to change that to cash settlement only. Apparently he insurer isn't obliged to dispose of the bike for me??
