Got them from eBay. £34 delivered in February last year, so I've had them 11 months. They're my every day work trousers (all year round) and they HAVE had a hard life, and they've stood up very well.

I noticed my balls appear to have worn a hole through the "kevlar" in the crotch. I gently tried to tear the kevlar to make the hole bigger and it was very easy to; there is little tear resistance. I wonder whether this is Kevlar at all.

If it isn't, I'll demote these to winter wear when I'm taking the car in to work, no point wearing them on the bike thinking they'll protect when they won't.

Have a blat down the motorway and jump off the bike. If your kevlar jeans (and legs) get torn to shreds then they're probably fake Thumbs Up

Kevlar is abrasion resistant, not tear resistant.

I'm guessing abrasion caused the holes in the first place though?
I don't wear pants that could tear them, my pants generally don't even have buttons.

Doesn't look much like it to me. Looks like they may have received a small nick at some point, and wear has caused the tear to expand.
Alternately, it's possible that the creasing caused by proximity to a natural fold point has caused the material to weaken.

Force riders? I can testify they crash well.

Thin layers of Kevlar or whatever aramid is used will only really protect against abrasion, so if somehow a small hole was poked in it, it will tear further easily. Old army CBA body armour had a seriously thick layer of aramid and it didn't take much effort to stab a blade clean through.

I presume you left this as feedback on eBay?

Sounds about right. Something small enough to penetrate between the fibres rubbing against the material from the inside.

It could be corrosion.

To rule this out, I'd check carefully for "flux" stains.
