Been noticing that ever since I've had a motorbike I have slowly been getting a bit soft around the middle because I ride absolutely everywhere. If its more than a 15 minute walk I defiantely take the bike.
It's just so much more fun that walking
Anyone else noticed the onset of paunch since getting a bike?

If you dont exercise then it's easy to let yourself go a bit, but on the other hand the more you ride the firmer your bum gets! Always good thing in my opinion - be it your bum or your partners ____________________ "One moment can change a day, one day can change a life and one life can change the world." I can't gain weight at all, so it only affected my physical stamina, really. Now that I've moved to Florence I have to walk everywhere, though, so I'll get in shape again. Until I get ahold of a bike, of course . |

You are obviously riding too slowly, if you are having to climb about all over the bike you will keep fit Why not try some motocrossing?

Yea okay biking may make you ride everywhere (especially in summer ) and yes I suppose you probably do gain a bit of weight....
but..
I still reckon it's a great stress reliever. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it That and the arse thing. That's a good one too. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

I am 18 and while having my bike I have bulked up certainly, but not gotten fat, having a physical job (I enjoy just working, not being an office kinda guy, pay isn't the big deal, just physical - no worry after 5 - kind of work, and it keeps me in decent shape.
As I get older I guess I will watch my diet and maybe do actual exercise, but for now I'm all good. ____________________ 04 Suzuki GSX-R 600 K4 - Sex on wheels :>

Just do what I had to do this evening. Push bike for 3 miles with a flat rear tyre.
I noticed a noise, pulled over and saw a wall hook in my tyre, pulled it out and wooossshhh went all my air.
Must of burnt off a good few pounds |

Biking is good for my health.
- As Annabella said, hauling the bike in & out of the shed (and sometimes just getting it round corners!) gives me an upper body workout.
- As Leggy Girl said, if you clench your bum & grip with your thighs/knees like you would on a horse, that bit gets worked too.
- Girls! Your bike is an ideal place to do your pelvic floor execises!
- Most importantly though, I can use my bike to de-stress. If I come in from work with steam coming out of my ears and wanting to kill something It takes about 40 minutes of riding (just far enough to get out of town usually) til I start to feel better. After an hour I am usually grinning.
Stress is a major factor in many modern illnesses, so my bike is definitely good medicine! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

I must agree with everything you said babyyam, specially the stress part. Even if bikes might get some people fatter it has to be better than car... I mean at least you move your body about . But if putting a few extra pounds is troubling you just go to the gym. It can do you wonders. Moreover, it's also a known to make you feel happier and fights stress.
