Wash the sump out with some diesel to allow the nut to move about freely, give the engine a shake and tip it upside down, hopefully it should either drop out or at least roll to a more accessible place. Allow diesel to drain, add some fresh oil and flush that out and then refill to correct level.

Its possibly found its way into the gearbox tho I defo wouldn't risk leaving it in there . as said maybe a bit of diesel to break down the oil and keep shaking it

A lot of magnetic pick-up tools came with an led in the end to make retrieval easier.

Tip: I know it's a little late but next time stuff every orifice on an open engine with rag to prevent such inconveniences.

Yeh I know about stuffing rag down crankcase yeh magnetic pick up tool tried one perpously bending it so I coulf get past the crank didn't work that well going to put inspection camera and trying. Going attach broken magnet with light to some stiff hose .. Or buy a fleixble tool...

As for the chappy who said leave it in and fit it with magnetic sump plug ... Great idea ill find half of my teeth or crank attached to it won't I ? After it wizzes round my engine and does nothing but damage.. If I was to do this fancy paying the. Bill to strip and fix it...

Nope, that's the kind of idiocy he comes out with and genuinely believes in.

OP, in the long run, it's going to prove simpler to strip the thing instead of all this to-ing and fro-ing.

Ask Simon in Firefox, Keighley to have a look at it. He's a great lad with bikes! Give him a bell on 01535 662100.

Now if that were me that found a spanner in the engine of a bike I'd bought and the owner had failed to mention it I'd be paying a return visit to said previous owner and he'd be needing the services of a dentist to remove said spanner from its new home.

hahaha

Like you'd ever remove a sump... unless of course you dropped a nut down there.
