Hi guys. I'm looking for a reliable comfy tourer but fast enough so it's fun.

I like the fazer 1000 but for under £1500 it's going to be difficult.

Anyone else got any ideas on bikes? Are the fazer 600's fun enough?

As J4mes mentioned, ZZR 1100. From what I understand they're very fast, comfortable and can be had very cheaply (your budget of £1,500 should get you a very good one). Might be worth noting the amount of chain and sprockets and tires you will likely get through.

TBH my CBR600FW would have done just as much reliable touring as my 'dedicated' sports touring Sprint does. I know this because I went on a tour with the guy I sold it to, and he coped just as well as I did (and better, if I'm honest, over the black mountains)

Nice XJ900, fully loaded with the bonus of shaft drive, asking price is not that bad either.

Yup, spot on. 50mpg if I behave myself, under 20mpg if hooned, although mine has had one or two 'tweaks' so a standard model may be a little less thirsty. It will corner but you need to throw it in there and really believe you'll make it!! (Helps if you've got some muscle).

Allow about a litre of oil for every 1000 miles covered and look out for knackered suspension/steering items when buying - easy and cheap enough to rectify but helps to know if you are going to have to stump out for parts.

Early zzr1100. Less than a grand, excellent comfort, reasonable handling (in a big bike way) and good for at leat 160 if you dare, in textile waterproofs and with huge panniers, while still bashing out 160 miles per tank. (160mph is a guesstimate, made from estimated acceleration up to a legal 70mph, certainly not on the #% at night. Or an autobahn.)

Blackbird!

Grab one that's been down the road cheap and tart it at a later date. That was a very very fast bike.

Another for a ZZR1100. £1500 will buy you a cracking bike.

The answer to any "cheap bike" question is Thundercat.

Fast "Tourer" ?

E/F model, sure.

C model will shit its gearbox before he tours out of the driveway Thumbs Up

Are you having a giraffe? Why would the E & F be deemed a fast tourer and not the C when its the same lump, same power,in fact the differences are very minimal other than cosmetic changes.....I do know the differences between them but I can't be arsed going in to great detail about it.

I've had two C models now and I've never had any issues with the gearbox,so long as you keep on top of stripping down the gear changer, cleaning and greasing it then this greatly reduces the issue with 3rd gear,so yes its a very capable good fast tourer.

You'd have to add RF900 and Thunderace to the default ZZR1100 if it's a cheap fast sports tourer your after? CBR1000's are cheap as are ZX10's too!

Wull is being naughty, ZX9 C1/E1 was once able to lap tracks at 98 Blade speeds, and still have an R1 on a long enough back straight.

Is it a fast sports tourer your after though, or a fast proper Tourer?

I was going to suggest this but you'd be pushing to get one with luggage for £1,500 and they're not that fast ...

Like I said,if you look after cleaning the mechanism it's unlikely to happen so chances are that was overlooked.

The z1000 box fits but it's not a straight forward fit and needs slightly doctored to all work, plus they're as rare as rocking horse shit.

I'm on the 9r forum and have been since early 09 and there's been hardly any box probs,in fact you get the usual thread stating "I think my box is fucked" but after we recommend the strip down, clean and grease the problem is gone and the gears are as slick as they should be.
