Varadero 1000 2003+ ABS model - I have had a very good experience with 125 and the 1000 looks very appealing with full luggage I could dissapear for days at a time in the summer however I am not the usual morbidly obese meat head I see on these I am 5'11 and weigh not much more than eleven stone I can't help but think my romantic notion of riding off into the sunset is just that.

Fazer 600 box eye - I also like the look of this bike black in particular and they can be bought for less than half than what the Varadero costs.

This will be my first big bike so anything is going to be an upgrade.

I believe certain Fazer's can be legally ridden on an A2 license (not that you seem to be bothered by such things). I also think the Fazer's a better choice than a big heavy litre bike.

If cost (as in buying cost and running costs) wasn't an issue I would go with the XL1000 because I fancy a big adventure tourer. With cost being an issue however, I would go for the Fazer.

Buying either bike isn't an issue I have the cash sat in my savings account insurance difference is only £100.

I will be servicing either bike myself my only concern is how greedy the Varadero is going to be when it comes to petrol especially in the summer.

Would say Varadero 1000. However sure they have issues with header gaskets or something. Not a nice task.

The weight is only there at a standstill. You'll be fine.

From what I read on other forums the Varadero isn't the cheapest bike to commute on and is best reserved for touring some weeks I can commute between 250 - 300 miles this would get costly in fuel and tyres.

I am currently swaying more towards the Fazer but I really want the Varadero this isn't just a crush I have felt this way for some time I plan on keeping whatever bike I choose for a minimum of two years.
