Back in 1988, BMW integrated a digital clock into the 'dash' on my bike. It has a backlight that comes on when I put the lights on.

I did the watch strapped to yoke thing for a while
I did think about getting a small LED on a gooseneck to light it up
The batteries eventually ran so low that pushing the light button made the whole thing fade to nothing
Rather than buying a new battery I eventually got round to buying a cheap backlit clock from eBay (china) and it has survived so far...drizzle, downpours and jetwashing...through hot and cold
But to be fair it is mounted behind the screen, so it doesn't see a great deal of direct weather
I set the backlight to come on with ignition, I may revisit it and wire backlight to the lights as its pretty clear without being lit up, even in low light it has good contrast (something I initially fretted over)
I hotglued the setting buttons to the back of the case and all over the wires where they come out the back, so its pretty well sealed
I then wrapped it all apart from the face with black electrical tape and down the wires to assist keeping water out and it's all tucked between screen and a dip in between the clocks (no photo's sorry), it does bounce and wibble about as its not actually attached to anything, just being held by its wires, I was going to make a mount, but meh...its not going anywhere
Its a bitch to set the time now its all wrapped in tape - can't see where the buttons are now and the cables are quite short and no room for saussage fingers behind it
I ended up having to take the screen off and set it by feel and guesswork when I replaced the motorbikes battery last time
Not had it steam up or go black ....yet
It's backlight is pretty bright (and blue so not the ideal colour for night time vision) but not a distraction

I was so impressed I have bought another which has arrived (took 3 weeks IIRC)
Still need to make a mount or bracket for the naked GPZ500 I'm using this winter (will do the hotglue and self amalgamating tape trick again)
Was going to fit it when I fitted the heated grips, but its not been that cold that I feel I need to fit them yet (maybe it won't this year??)
I do miss not knowing what time it is (or rather how late I'm running)
Will take a photo of it fitted on the faired bike if you want?
Regards

That sounds pretty promising and a relatively cheap solution!
Pictures may be useful, please |

You're late, go faster.
Print that out and stick it where the five pond watch currently is. |
