mallorypark wet course

Has anyone done this course ?

It is apparently the only one in the country . You get 1:1 tuition starting from 10 to 4.

4.5 hours riding time with 1.5 theory .

Course cost is £225 plus £80 for bike ( if I don't take mine) .

I have asked to find out what qualifications or experience he has got as I want to ensure i am taught by someone whom knows their stuff.


He should be otherwise he wouldn't be there but still asked.

I did a DSA course with them. A lot of the bikes are (or were 3/4 years ago) shit, and they're a bit overpriced IMO, but the guys know their stuff and you would learn a lot from them.

I am using my own bike and to be fair I think 225 for an entire day of 1.1 is not significant amount and reasonable .

Did you get all you were promised for ?

I suppose mallory charges them at least £100 for the day so how can they afford to do it for £125 profit which then they have to pay tax on

Do you hire a bike every time you ride on the road?

If I did it I would do it on my own bike. I assume the instructors are not going to push you to the point of crashing.

No, but up until recently I had a dedicated track bike so that if I binned it, no drama.
Personally, if I was doing a wet day then I wouldn't do it on my road bike.

Well that's your own personal choice. I understand your reasoning but don't see don't really see a big issue in using your own bike.

No issue whatsoever up until the point where you bin it. Can't get home, need to get it recovered, no bike left until you sort it.

Having a bike just for the track lets you push a bit harder. Just personal choice though Thumbs Up

It will be an extra source of stress causing you to tense up when practising cornering in the wet. And tense is exactly what you shouldn't be.

Wearing the right gear, on a track at the relatively low speeds I'd expect, you shouldn't be worried about dropping someone else's bike. Coming off in a lowside doesn't hurt much. A scratched up bike with bent and broken levers, bent handlebars, etc. hurts more.

They're permanently based at Mallory so I don't know what they pay.
When I did the DSA there were two of them, the owner +1, both very good. I don't know if they've taken someone else on but whilst you may well get 1:1 supervision I suspect there might well be other courses running depending on how busy they are. If you feel you need it and can afford it you will benefit from it.

The best courses I've done for confidence boosting and handling was i2i machine control 1 & 3 - https://www.i2imca.com/ They were worth every penny.

Book a track day there on a wet day, get free tuition for about £60?

Add IAM/RoSPA/Bikesafe for not much more if required.
