acer aspire 5600U cracked digitizer

A friend was having a few problems with the above mentioned all in one PC

First when it was switched on after a second or so it would give out a continuous beep.... which turns out the memory had been moved and wasn't located properly.

Second was the hard drive failed a while ago and after having it replaced would not recognise Windows XP (original) or Windows 7 (copy) discs.... turns out because it was previously Windows 8 it wouldn't accept anything less.

So the problem with it now (and I've had a quick look online, but can't find anything for this), is the lower right corner of the digitiser is cracked, and when the computer is switched on that portion of the screen is registering lots of left clicks. Eventually I got in to the control panel and found the settings for the screen, but there were no options on switching it off completely.

So I was wondering if anyone knew which lead needed to be disconnected from the motherboard, I've found the monitor lead, but don't know if it's actually part of that plug or somewhere else

in xp and 7 you have to go into add remove programs and uncheck tablet pc components in the windows components / turn windows features on and off menu.


Don't know about win 8?

The other option would be to disconnect the digitizer internally but like your said it may be integrated with the monitor main cable..

I finally got it sorted after about an hour of trying to fight with the pointer in the control panel then just disabled the touch screen and it all works fine now.
