Same thing happened to us but with our daughter. She is quite bright too, knew what everyone was telling her made sense, but couldn't commit to trusting the bike.

Bmx bandits DVD sorted that out. She taught herself after watching this. Try it.

My daughter was the same. Had a fear of trusting the bike without the stabilisers on.

One sunny afternoon when she was 8 she appeared down the driveway riding the bike with no issue. After years of teaching her somehow magically managed to click.

Just shows you mind over matter!

I'm trying it now Wink Really old. It's on Amazon Prime for free (until free trial runs out for me on 20 Jan).

We watched it together, then she went out 'to play'.
Came back half an hour later all excited saying she could ride her bike.
We spied on her when she went out...trying to persevere - it was brilliant.

Advice on cycling forums is often to not bother with stabilisers but to remove pedals and cranks (or buy a balance bike) and have them scoot around on it for a while getting used to the feel of a bike before learning to pedal it.

going from stabilisers to no stabilisers is like going from a trike to a bike, you have to learn to steer all over again.
