Two bikes collide on what looks like a mountain or hillside road.

Not sure i would have been so eager to move one of the bikers so quickly but fortunately there was no lasting damage. Certainly if the fire was getting close or breathing became an issue then yes i'd have moved him.

Wow, that was actually quite moving. I wouldn't take the riders helmet off though, there was a possibility, his neck was injured. We are taught here not to touch the lid, if the rider is conscious and ''relatively'' alright. One bad move and a vertebra may damage the spinal cord. Thumbs Up

Fire in the bush in Australia in January not surprised they moved him.

You see one of those fuckers go up and you'll move people pretty sharpish.

It's a judgement call, and quite a tough one.

Without being a local, it's hard to know what the conditions were like, but if it was hot and dry, that fire could have spread hundreds of metres in a matter of minutes. Australia gets some truly devastating forest fires and they spread so fast its unreal.

So preemptively moving him could be the prudent thing to do.

Same argument for removing the helmet.

There's no point preventing any further spinal injury if they end up dying as a result of inaction.

It's not hard or particularly time-consuming to clear a c-spine if you know what you're doing though, more accident-response first aid courses should be available, to teach people exactly that. Hopefully in the future they'll become more prevalent, in combined association the ambulance and fire service and police bikers. Maybe as part of an expanded Bike Safe initiative.

Heard very good things about the Rider Down course, but they don't seem to be many of those available.

Become a race marshal, you get the full training on moving a fallen rider and helmet removal. It gets practiced at every major race event... usually.
