I have a nicely seedy workshop out the back. Due to weather and Christmas I haven't been out there for a few weeks. Thought it was getting a bit pongy but put that down to some good curry's.
Turns out that a stray cat has taken up residence. Nice little thing so don't want to go overboard on the violence front.
Anyone have any ideas how to dissuade it from settling in?

Cheers

I'd suggest that you lob a cup's worth of cold water at it - after a couple of repetitions, it'll get the idea and move on. However, since it's quite cold at the moment, I can't help but wonder if that's cruel or not.

Adopt it, feed it, clean it up and you'll never have mice in your mancave.

Call RSPCA? They might be able to come pick the stray up if it's a nuisance and take care of it. It's free so why not.

The cat's chosen to move in with you (ok, workshop, but near enough).
I'd be pleased. After all sometimes you need all the friends you can get.

Ok, they'll use cuddly words like put to sleep or euthanasia but they really mean killing it.

My Mrs Borg's moggies get a soaking when they go next door to tear up their garden (on my suggestion). Hasn't stopped them.

Cat litter is pretty cheap, and a purring cat can help put problems in perspective.

Exactly this.

It's what made me take on my 2nd cat.

He would have otherwise ended up in RSPCA centre, and with a skin condition it worried me...he's also really funny with new people. I lost him for three hours after G walked in my flat and said "Hello" Laughing

https://i.imgur.com/1f72Kto.jpg

He's very freindly once you get to know him. Sits on top of doors most of the time so rarely gets in the way of anyone or anything.

My cats cost me about £60 every two-three months in food & litter. I buy dry food in bulk 10kg sacks with two 15kg sacks of litter. litter trays are all of a few quid at the pet shop, so won't cost you the earth whilst you find the little guy a decent home.

Chucking cold water on an animal in sub zero tempratures is a really nasty thing to do, especially if it doesn't have a home or warm shelter to go to dry off in.

Waterpistol. If you must.

Personally, I'd let it stay.
(can you tell I really REALLY miss having a cat? Laughing )

A stray or feral cat in a shed might be just avoiding the cold, then again it could be nesting, so possibly you should check that it's not pregnant, cos then you will be inundated with little blind bundles of mewling cuteness that you simply won't be able to bring yourself to drown in a bucket.

Is it letting you get close/stroke it/feed it?

OK. Phoned the RSPCA, they can't help, too many already. Council won't do anything, they only deal with stray dogs. It tends to come and go so I'm not sure what its up to.
While its brass monkeys I'll leave it be, I'm not that cold hearted, once it warms up though its due for eviction.

I want to say "adopt the cat", but it sounds like the cat has chosen you.

Don't be a shitbag. Thumbs Up

Feed it, care for it and it will return the favour by preventing mice from moving into your airbox.

Oh yeah true forgot the RSPCA might kill it. I had a cat once, died of old age. Just take care of the cat then while it's in your man cave, put litter boxes out if you don't want it to shit all over your garage (nothing says the cat will actually shit in the litterbox though)
and feed it, you never know you might end up liking the little shit.

Wotcha.

A certain furry "something" seems to have taken up residence on the seat of my trike. . . . . it lives over the road and I reckon it comes over mine for a bit of peace and quiet.

As far as I'm concerned the cat can sit there.

I could lend you Bruno, he hates cats (or maybe he likes them, wants to feel their furry little bodies in his mouth ... I'm never quite sure)

But then you'd have to suffer a 50kg ginger cannonball with bad breath, banging into everything in your workshop whilst attempting to chase the cat Rolling Eyes

Whatever you do DO NOT GIVE IT A NAME.
Not even "Cat".

Else you will never be able to get rid of it.

Yes, yes, yes, I'm the epitome of animal cruelty. Creatures and people only come to me to be crushed beneath the flaming iron-shod boot of my hatred for all living things.

Of course, I might have suggested a cupful of water on account of it being a big, easy thing for a cat to see coming that isn't inherently harmful, that it will want to avoid. I have yet to encounter the cat that's stupid enough to stand there and watch the water that's about to soak it hit its mark. I don't doubt that they exist, but any cat that's currently feral is likely to have sufficiently good reflexes to not get wet.

Keep it and then you won't have to worry about mice or rats getting in.
Plus cats are cute balls of fluff Smile

The most humane way (if you don't want to adopt said cat) would be to get some lion or any big cat poo from your local zoo. Spread it around outside said mancave & it'll never come back. Personally I love cats but due to my tenancy agreement aren't allowed one. Sad

Pongy? Cat piss? Poop? Or has it been bringing dead things in?

Are you able to secure the man cave to stop said moggy getting in, or is it hiding under the floor allowing dead rats to decompose...

If you secure man cave so the moggy can't get in, and you feel guilty. How about making a small cat cave? Chances are it'll turn it's nose up and sod off, but might just give the thing somewhere warm and dry to shelter...

How do you know it's a stray Wink

My cat will walk through next doors bedroom window, lay on the bed curled up. Then when the neighbour walks in the room it rolls over and want's its belly rubbed rather than running off.

Maybe it's just a friendly cat with an owner, possibly might let the cat out for the day whilst at work maybe.

Not all cats with homes have collars too.

Another vote for let him chill in the man cave.

Do you think that zoos charge for Big Cat Poo?

(or indeed, any Big Animal Poo)
