Just removed the battery to charge as will be sitting idle for several weeks and found an optimate charger connector attached to the bike.

Never having one before does anyone recognise it? Be habdy not to have to unscrew and bolt the seat each time.

May be wrong but with that red cap it looks like the lead that comes with an Optimate.

The Oxford chargers use the same type of connection though.

Yes. It looks like an optimate charger lead. The different shapes are so you don't put +ve to -ve or vice versa.

See here for variations.

The lead from the optimate should plug straight in. Optimate don't appear to have changed this plug for any of the various version numbers.

Looks like the SAE71 adaptor that's attached to the battery. So in theory any model of optimate battery charger should be able to hook up to this cable?

If you can't get an Optimate then Accumate are made by same company.

It says a new connector in the advertising pic?

On the connector sales page it says not suitable for 1 and 2 chargers unless pre 2010...

Think I'll just order a charger and if it fits then all well and good, they appear to come with the detachable connector anyways so worst case scenario I'll have a spare.

Which one though? It'll only be the odd charge when standing for more than a few days, not a trickle over night.

Cheapest option is probably an Oxford Oximiser 600 - about £20ish on ebay now.

I admit I've lost track of the various Optimate version numbers. I think the higher numbers handle the newer Gel and whatever batteries better.

I'd speculate it doesn't really matter which one (unless you need for newer battery type) as I understand Optimate does a recovery/recharge and if left on (for days) then automatically goes into a recycle/top-up/keep good sort of mode.

FWIW I've heard bad reports of the Oxford branded chargers. They're not really Optimate/Accumate. They tend to break after a while when the Optimate just keeps on working.

Be carefull as i have a newer optimate 4 and it comes with the blow plug.

Because bikers are always pointed towards Optimates,they're good but you can get better for the money,CTEKS are cheaper,have a 5 year warranty and beat Optimates in auto test features.
And no I'm not biased,l have both an Optimate 3 and a CTEK 5.0.
