They have deliberately been feeding him and taking him in although a pedigree main coon hardly looks like a stray.
ive confronted them but its got to the point where my cat wont come home and since I told them two days ago that i was at the end of my tether they are now telling me they havent seen him since. The police wont help me even though one of their neighbours says he thinks they have him indoors. I dont know what to do next.

This situation has been going on for a few months now.

Usual advice, fire in with a complaint against Scotplod for not acting on a report of a theft. Try not to be too Crazy Cat Lady, talk about it as valuable property, which it is. Theft Act 1968 applies.

Second, you could start a civil case against the thieves for the value of the stolen property.

I'd expect success in both issues to hinge on an independent witness or some form of evidence.

But... and I have two moggies, I do sympathise... if you got the cat back, would you keep him in? If not, do you see yourself in the same position again few days or weeks down the line?

What concerns me most here is your saying your neighbours have been going out of their way to feed and encourage your pedigree cat and for months too? Do you know this for fact, and have they admitted to feeding him or letting him into their house?

If so all you did wrong was doing fuck all about it, and letting your neighbours entice him to eat and sleep at their place. You wouldn't let someone feed and house your husband or children like this. The first time your neighbours showed too much interest in grooming your cat, you should have took it out of their face with a few stunners and a couple of quieteners to boot!

If after that they didn't take heed of your friendly warnings, you should go round and break their knee caps with a baseball bat, and offer to bust a couple of ribs or their jaw for extra understanding.

My cat first went missing a couple of months ago then reappeared 10 days later after id already done all the stuff you generally do when a pet is lost. he had an injury to his back leg which had healed and i presumed that he had been locked in a barn in the area. he then went missing for a week a few days later then came home again.

My hubby came in from work a couple of days later and said he had just seen Charlie round the cottages, thats when I thought someone was feeding him, flyers went in every property with a photo and request not to feed the cat as he was a pet and lived at the old farm up the hill.

When he went missing again I got a couple of phonecalls from people pointing the finger at one of the neighbours who I confronted. He denied seeing the flyer I put through their door and promised me he wouldnt feed him again after saying he thought he was a stray. Charlie was at home until the beginning of last week and I went straight to the house and on two occasions got him in my car and brought him home, I locked the cat flap and he forced it open.
I went again the day before yesterday and spotted food by the back door and evidence in the snow that showed Charlie had been in and out the house. I confronted the man and made it quite clear that I had had enough. Charlie buggered off round the back of his shed at this point and wouldnt come out so I told the bloke id be back, yesterday he wasnt anywhere to be seen and the bloke came out and said hed seen him 6am and then again at 3pm but nothing since. I went back later and there was still no sign and i went back again twice today, no cat and no bloke answering his door.

I have now come home absolutely pissed off and reported this to the SSPCA and I have emailed every vet withing a 10 mile radius of the area. Charlie is microchipped and neutered and I have his pedigree papers as proof of ownership.

I have had friends offer to go round and kick the blokes door in. I am now waiting on what the SSPCA say and will be asking his neighbours to keep a look out. I am moving in three weeks and this needs resolving before i lose my temper and hit someone.

Roger Ive had him 8 years and this is the first issue ive ever had, where im moving to is even more remote but hes fond of hunting rabbits and chasing deer so I dont think hed ever adapt to being kept in, he just barged through the catflap and can open doors.

Duhawkz all my cats are chipped spayed and neutered.

it is a chip based catflap and he went through it locked like a bloody steamroller. the woman in the SSPCA ive contacted is the wife of a mate of mine in one of the local bike clubs, Im hoping to get more help because of this.

We have always kept them inside, so they know not what's outdoors.(other than their enclosure).

We don't have a chipped flap as they're show cats and can't wear collars. Still if I lock the flap, they can't get through it. Maybe a replacement flap to control and regulate where he is at all times, I know it's a little late as your moving, but maybe a thought to keep it up in the old noodle for just in case.
Another idea that crossed my mind which may help you, is to replace handles with [sfw]knobs[/sfw].
If and when he comes back, I'd be closing all doors and windows (upstairs and all), at leat til you've moved.

You cat stealing neighbours sound like they may not be willing to give up the cat easily, they're saying they haven't seen it recently which sounds suspicious, they may not be willing to give it up without a fight.
