ah, they're not so bad. they have a bed rep thanks to the likes of clarkson etc rigging the cars so they tip over easily.

there have been a few that i have seen competing in classic trials, and they dont tip over while effectively offroading Thumbs Up

oh, and nissan micra?

Sick

id rather drive the reliant, at least it'll have some personality Laughing

I had one a million years ago. Laughing

Missus used to drive it until she came went to start it after being aaway one weekend and came in shout 'where's the fucking engine gone'.

We stole it and shoe horned it into my goldwing trike after the engine in that blew up!.

Lovely little engines in them. Designed by Coventry Climax racing team, all alloy!

I had one a million years ago too
they were dubbed the 'plastic pig'
Back then it was an affordable option for bikers with kids.
I remember dropping an engine in the road and picking the front up
and walking it back, legs apart, to get the engine out.
The engines were ok but the car itself was horrible,
couldn't wait to get my car license and get on 4 wheels.

Seen and worked on a few trike versions too, the back axles were often
used to convert CXs into trikes.
I wouldn't want one myself but any surviving cars do have a novelty value nowdays.

I am beginning to get all the stuff together that i somehow amassed for other projects when i was younger, and then putting it into this if it is MOTable. stuff such as - sub and amp, plasma gauges, underbody LEDs....

you get the picture.

i'm actually getting excited now, it's going to be so funny Laughing

You'll need to upgrade the alternator if you're stuffing electrics in, I run a deckless head unit from Aldi with an SD card reader/BT receiver (a standard unit is too deep and fouls on the wiper motor) feeding four speakers and it'll kill the battery on a long run with music constantly on Laughing

The rolling is pretty much a myth, I've been sideways many times and have yet to turn a Reliant over. Main thing to remember is to keep a little bit of weight at the back of the boot, improves things no end. Also expect people to try and bully you on the road. Bonny has been in the car with me before now and will attest to the fact that you have to drive with a certain air of aggression to make other drivers take note Wink

Servicing is OK once you're used to it. Main thing to learn is where the inspection panels are and what you should be using them for, some stuff is best accessed through the bonnet but most of the time you work from the footwell of the car. They're fun little vehicles, they have their faults (CARRY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER!) but driving mine always makes me grin.

Saw one outside the local shop yesterday
a Rialto 2 just like the one in the pic.
When I were a lad I recall a mate borrowing his dads old Regal and we were looning about in it.
The throttle cable snapped so we removed the panel and I was hunched down in the passenger footwell controlling the throttle for him

Such fun!
