Throw some ideas at me.

Tempted by a 675 Daytona, but having ridden the 954 for the past few years, wonder if it'll be weird revving the knackers off something again.

2004 R1 would be ideal, but they seem to be £4k and up.

Any other ideas?

Only requirement is fun and sporty. Could be tempted by a Superduke or similar, but again they're too much monies.

I think you may struggle to find one of these for £3k. You may be able to get a Street Triple for that money but it would be at the very bottom of the price range for this bike.

How about a Daytona/Speed Triple 955i? These seem to be available for far less than your budget. I believe there was someone on here recently selling one for around £1800.

Fat, and the quality worries me. Thumbs Up

Street triple's not a bad shout. Will it still be entertaining on the road?

I briefly had a go on Paddy's but it was mostly through a town so didn't get chance to have a proper blast. I liked the riding position (upright and wide bars) and to be honest, if Paddy raves about it after the amount of bikes he's had, it must be pretty good.

In any case who says the 954 would be going, have also owned a generation 2 Mille, and a 2004 ZX6R. Laughing

Big shout for the street. You aren't far from here are you? Welcome to rob it for a few weeks and see if it's your thing. Most definitely mine, most fun I've had on 2......maybe 1 wheel.

Do you not find it gets a bit dull "only" having 100 odd bhp?

I must admit I am tempted, so thank you for the offer. I'm up in Bedfordshire, so maybe a bit far. Thinking

Depends what you can do with that power and where it is delivered. What is the point of having 160bhp in the sports bike when you cannot use half of it? I'd happily take the 100bhp if it had more usable power. It makes it a lot more fun.

My old Firestorm was around 100bhp where my XJ6 puts out just 78 and I find I can use the XJ far more than I could the storm. I find I can corner faster and throw it around a lot easier than I could the Storm. The only thing missing was the top speed but even then it is not far off it. So for me I have more usable power in the corners.

The speed and street triple are well known for their handling and you can throw them around. Cornering faster would make up for the lack of top end for me.

To be fair to the Firestorm, someone did change the forks for the pogo sticks. Razz

Have to agree that the only place where I've really been able to use the 954 for any consistent length of time has been on track, or the IOM.

Hmm, will have a look at the Street as well. Speed Triple feels pretty lardy to me (although it does make a great sound), and I prefer the FZ1, but that's just me.

If they have done the same to the FZ1 as they have with the little XJ then the new shape will be a great ride. Sadly, having a look on ebay, the new shape naked all start around 4K

The 06 onwards is a great bike (save for the first 2006 ones with iffy fuelling).

I'm pretty light but found the Street to be almost as good in a straight line as the Speed Triple but much more easier to use day to day and at speed in terms of handling.

What do you want from a bike/what will it be used for? Is it a sporty replacement for the Fireblade, something to complement it, something completely different to it etc...?

Yes the paint & headlight are wank, but at worst it's £200 for a sprayjob & a standard round light.

Not a chance. I can honestly say I've never come back with any form of disappointment. To me, it feels like a hooligan bike, with a set of cans its noisy and makes some sexual noises when you blip it when down shifting.

To me, its a cross between the antics and seating angles of a supermoto and the power of a sport 6 with the gearing knocked down a tad.

I do not get bored of it, I don't consider it dull at all Thumbs Up Bedfordshire to Kent is do-able by train Wink But in all seriousness, happy to leave it with you for some time to see if its your thing, its all sorted anyway.

Hmmm, interesting! Very Happy

Edit: A bit expensive on tyres judging by that pic Laughing

How about a 4XV R1? You could get a nice clean one for around that money. Mega Motorcycle Store in Swindon had a spotless red and white one in for about that last time I looked. Don't know what mileage it had, but it looked immaculate.

It will be no different to the 954 really, would seem silly to keep in the litre class IL4.
