Had to cut short my trip as I spent too much money going out getting pissed. Got a few new flags. (Waheyy, LADS ON TOUR Laughing ). But yeh. Still had a great time, although the boat I stayed on was a joke. It was run by christian scientists. I lasted 3 days. Rolling Eyes .

Booked my flight originally for the 26th, but of course this storm Juno hit. All flights cancelled. Then had a chore to rebook for today. Had a mission getting from Union City to JFK, the MTA was suspended but this morning it resumed sunday service. Took a few hours to travel across the city.

Sitting in JFK rght now, it is COMPLETELY deserted. I've never seen anything like it.

The runway is totally covered in snow, watching the cleanup operation is awesome.

Now have a 5 hour wait until my flight back to London. Luckily I found myself a comfy area to nest in. Found Mirrors Edge which I'll now play through. Razz

Thank gawd they've got windows in those places, giving you something to watch. You'd go stir crazy without people to watch otherwise... Shocked

Eerie with or without. Must be a couple of hundred outside, one person has walked past me in the past 20 minutes.

Best part was the free meal voucher I got from the check in lady. Came with a wink and a whispered "Don't tell anybody". Managed to get 3 big mac meals with it. Thumbs Up. She probably had 100 odd to give away. Laughing .

I've always loved empty airports, you see them in a different and unfamiliar way.

When I first passed my bike test, I often wizzed out to Heathrow very late at night; used to wander around and play the arcade games, watch the maintenance teams doing their stuff on the empty hard standings, etc.

You'd probably get frogmarched off the premises now..... Tut Tut Tut Tut

Sad .

I was supposed to be here for 3 months, but it was apparent after the first day it wasn't going to happen.

Will be back. Has been annoying having no personal transport. Was great walking around for the first few days and taking in the tourist attractions, but after awhile I was itching to go inland.

That sounds like a pretty sweet month you're having. Laughing .

my corvette doesn't work in this weather Sad.

Mountains are only an hour away from here though, so I shall be boarding this weekend .

used cars are super expensive here, but you could get a cheap bike for next to nothing out here if you returned.

I'd even help sell it if you couldn't by the time you leave .

Saw a massive motorbike graveyard just off Red Hook, there must have been 1000+ bikes there. Mostly crossers. Drooling.

Sounds sweet. A quick blast in the mountains, some onboard footage.. plan!

No snow clear up could be as spectacular as the five huge snowploughs in a chevron formation driving up Oslo runway at about 60mph with a huge bow wave of snow blasting either side every half hour or so.

The US snow clean up is extremely tame in comparison.

Glasgow airport has a wee man with a broom and a dustpan, but he only works afternoons.

Whatever you do, don't get between him and his smack. That broom has been to some truly terrible paces.

The clean up is actually incredibly fast if you are used to UK standards, it's just the safety Nazis that cancel all the fights when it's fine.

I drove from southern Maryland to NYC and back overnight in the worst snowstorm last year . Was fine.

State of emergency was declared though , to go with the safety Nazi thing .

Possible thread redirection....
Will be visiting New York in April (with family) so if anyone has any useful suggestions on places to visit, places to eat, stuff to see etc. then let me know.

Have to do the touristy things as missus hasn't been before and she's looking forward to the experience. I keep telling her shopping is just shopping wherever you are in the world but she's standing her ground.

Aberdeen airport used to have a flame-thrower.

In Soviet Russia they use jet engines. To move the snow, melt the ice and dry the tarmac in one pass.

What really pisses me off is that MSNBC news channel seemed to think that a bit of snow in the NE corner of the US was enough to warrant over 48hours coverage of nothing but snow. Mad
Only this morning have they started broadcasting other news (albeit with a hefty bent towards NE snow!)

In other news I'd like to reassure you that it's been unseasonably chilly in Florida this past week, midday and it's only 14C and sunny, brrr. Laughing
