OK here goes. I have a 1996 Suzuki Bandit GSF1200S which until last year ran fine with the usual strong engine and crap fuel economy (who cares!!!).

The bike now seems to have developed a fault which results in poor running a below 5000rpm.

The main symptom is that, when fully warmed up, if you snap the throttle open the engines dies momentarily then eventually revs up. If you gently open the throttle the pick up isnt great but it will rev quite well.

I have changed the coils, plugs caps, plugs and the CDI which I believed to be the ciulprits but no change. I have checked the diaphragms and cleaned out the float chambers each of which contained the exact same volume of fuel.

The spark plugs all seemed to be lacking in colur when I changed them and almost seeme to be 'washed clean' which I suppose could be due to excess fuel if the cylinders are misfiring.

There are no air leaks that I can identify and the air filter is clean and new.

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted!!

cheers

Upon reading the first three lines/paragraphs initial thoughts turn to idle speed, does the bike idle fine and warm up ok?

Also below the 5,000rpm is there any problems with the lights on the dash / main lights dimming or loosing power?

(PS; My knowledge is limited, just a simple suggestion).

The spark plugs should be a straw to pale brown colour, so that suggests that the fuel mixture is too lean.

Possibly dirty fuel, blocked jets, float height set too low, blocked fuel filter?

Fuel starvation? How's your fuel filter and strainer before fuel tap?

How many miles on it and does it have a Dyno-jet kit fitted?

Funny that because myself and another have had running issues right after changing the air filter:

It FEELS like it's running lean because it's a bit better with choke and a lot better when warmed up however my fuel consumption is a lot worse than last year and top speed is down a lot too. Haven't got time to investigate it properly at the moment.
