BCFers,
I have got two Japanese bikes, both very popular in their day and are still now. Nothing exotic - a 500 and a 125 sports bike. 'G' and 'K ' registrations, 25 years old. But both are completely as new - with 10 and 50 miles on the clock. Stored in a dry cool shed, WD40 everywhere, and not touched all this time. Why not used? I got posted abroad, and when I got back, got interested in old Alfa Romeos (four wheels). I had to learn how to MIG weld....The bikes were forgotten. Now I am moving house and the bikes must be sold. I would like some advice on how to sell something like this.
I could fix a price of, say, 75% of what a similar modern bike costs and put an ad in MCN. Or I can put an advert on eBay, and see what happens (but I really dislike eBay). Or I could go to the special on-line forums for each bike and ask for offers. I've got to get new batteries, maybe new tyres and get the bikes MOT'd, but have to move quickly. I'm not mentioning the actual bikes themselves yet.
Anybody else had a similar situation?
BR
Dick

I reckon MCN/Visordown/Practical Sportsbike would be interested in hearing about these. They're collector-quality with that mileage even if they're not exotics, and any mention on their websites should bring suitable buyers your way.

Well, the G would be 25 years old. The K a few years younger.

Ebay, 10 days, 99p starting bid, no reserve, with a brief title, such as make, model, year and "As new," and description with nothing but simple facts and the best photos you can get.

Do not mention "rare," or "barn find" and use no exclamation marks.

I would look on a forum more specific to the models you have.
Ask advice etc from someone who knows or collects those particular bikes.
A genuine collector or enthusiast will always pay more for the right bike.
Keep us posted...... Good luck

^^This

Assuming anyone gets close to what you think they're worth, only a collector is going to pay top dollar, as all the value is in the low mileage; nobody with any sense would buy them to use, because as soon as you do, the originality is lost and the value plummets.

In fact, if I were you I wouldn't change the tyres or get them MOT'd, at best I'd wipe off the WD40 and advertise them just as they are.

Unless he's prepared to say what the bikes are Theres no chance of a valuation here - although the fact they're 'nothing exotic' makes me think that the 500 isn't a 2 stroke!
I personally would suggest a forum more dedicated to whatever the bikes are as a starting point...

The forum headings should say "No timewasters."

I reckon this is a very clever publicity stunt. He will come on and say they are on EBay, item number blah blah then we will all log straight on and see them.
The build up, the suspense!
