So, something a little different here. I work for an auto company doing conversions on vans and the like. Basically installation work, it's only a temporary contract but the work is very repetitive. My biggest problem is not the job however... It's the radio.

GEM 106 FM. When I first worked there back in November, I liked GEM. It plays 80's and 90's classics like Bonnie Tyler - I Need A Hero and Gangsta's Paradise, as well as current tracks by Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran. Though after a few weeks it rapidly became apparent that the playlist was the same, every single day. Not only that but they play the same tracks sometimes 4 times a day, spread out.

I'm now 3 months in and I can't take it anymore. It's bad enough doing the same work every day without having to listen to the same songs, I'm living in a time loop. It got to the point where I knew what time it was because of what song came on. We have voted on radio stations it got that bad, but management veto'ed the appeal because they're all old fuckers who don't mind listening to the same songs every day, sometimes on a Friday we get to listen to Radio 1 as a treat.

I've had enough. I need to fashion a radio jammer and hide it in my locker. I don't care if it's illegal. It will be more illegal when I go on a killing spree from hearing Magic - Rude one more fucking time. Anyone know how to build one that's relatively easy to do? I'm an electrician so it doesn't have to be super dumbed down.

So most people like the current station?

Or is it just the management? Either way, you could always find another job if it bothers you that much or even better start your own business so you can dictate to the skivvies which radio station is played.

Wouldn't it be a shame if the radio accidentally fell on the floor then got run over, repeatedly.

It would be incredible if this happened to the replacement too.

WTF is going on when the staff votes to change the radio station and the management says no? You lot need to grow a pair and just change the feckin station every morning!

Get one of those iPod > fm transmitter things. Set it to the frequency of that channel and deposit it near the radio?

You could try using an iTrip or a cheap equivalent, it's a basic short range transmitter that allows you to listen to your iPod/MP3 over the radio in the car. If you had it close and transmitting at the same frequency, it could cause enough interference. For bonus points, play Thomas the Tank Engine theme song on loop through your transmitter as it will bleed through.

So you'd rather face jail time than use a set of earphones. Christ, you're stupid.

I do wear earplugs, but I can still hear it. We aren't allowed to use earphones to listen to our own music, otherwise yes I'd just do that. I only need to block one frequency, not the whole radio. Music at work is nice but not the same thing, every, single, day...

Not familiar with the principles of a faraday cage then? My mobile won't work inside my unit but it's got absolutely nothing to do with a jammer.

OP - you're a 'sparks', if you can't figure this one out in-situ then I doubt anyone can help you... Wink hint...

Who's afraid of the DTI? Some memories there from the laughing policeman wireless society Smile Somewhat niche and offtopic for BCF though.

For the OP, I absolutely wouldn't suggest something like the previously mentioned iTrip, connected to the headphone socket of a radio tuned to a more acceptable station.

Staff count as 'public'.

There are loads of FM transmitter circuit diagrams on the internet. Not complex just an afternoons soldering.

Yeah just find one of the "FM Bug" circuits and put some sort of noise-circuit on the input.

They barely have more than 20m range typically so the risk of interfering with some granddads Radio 4 and getting any OFCOM complaints is tiny.

They run on a single AA battery generally and whilst all the simple bugs I tried to build were awful for trying to transmit speech, as a simple jammer should prove well suited.
