Camo livery on new cars

The Red Bull F1 car has recently started testing with camouflage livery and one engineer explained the reason for this as it's harder to determine the lines of the car so other's can't copy the design.

I've always seen manufactures do the same for new cars and bikes being road tested. Thing is, I personally can still see all the lines and curves etc of the vehicle. I mean if you can get photos from a few different angles it's quite easy to determine the dimensions and angles.

So.. what's the point?

I think road car manufacturers do it to prevent the classic 'spy shot' from appearing on the front page of Autocar or whatever. It's much easier for bike manufacturers, they can just send 'em out with last years fairings on. Triumph do this a fair bit IIRC.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Exactly. If they were really trying to hide them they would send them out undisguised and nobody would notice.

There was a brand new Jag parked outside Sainsburys on Saturday, with "PROTOTYPE JAGUAR XE" on the side in vinyl lettering. It was nice, as it happens, like a shorter, sleeker XF.

You have to be colour blind to see them.
Otherwise they just creep about amongst the other cars, hiding when people with normal vision are looking directly at them.
