A mate is flogging a top box cheap I want it but it is a Monokey Fitment whereas my current box is a Monolock. I need a new plate, only I can't find the right one. Before I cannibalize a random one does anyone know if there is a Monokey plate which clamps on to an existing rack, all the ones I've found you need the givi arms for.

Don't know what you ride, but I have a Monokey plate with the Givi arms for a 2001 VFR, took it off a couple of weeks ago to put grab handles on. No idea if it fits any other bike, but I'm not going to use it so am trying to get rid.

Plates and box attachements are a load of bollocks. Expensive bollocks. Ask yourself:

- Do you really need box to be removable by means of the key or single M5 bolt?

- Would Key/lock/plastic clip attachment be secure enough for your style of riding and weight loading of box *note that most have pathetic 80mph 5kg load ratings*

- Does the silly plastc clip provide enough theft/vandalism/crash protection? My box has saved bike from damage, and still remained fully secure for commuting (other than the latch screws ripping out, easily fixed by drilling and m5 bolts)

Givi arms are also weak and easily bent in a slow crash. A rack is generally stronger, and much cheaper. I have crash tested both.

My box, plastic tabs ripped off in a slow spill. Its now held to plate by 6x M8 bolts, which is held to the rack by another 6x M8 bolts(all 12.9, little overkill), and the bracket underneath is two halfs of a rear sprocket.

The whole rack is quickly removable by 4x M8 bolts, which I replace with the original grab rail. Its not often I do the swap as I prefer the added weight/stability a full box provides.

Also looks better

Kramdra, I've crashed a ZZR 600 with monokey topbox/ arms >40mph and nothing bent. Nothing snapped, but the box had some rash on the side as to be expected.

They're just rated for whatever speed just to cover themeselves. I used to always carry a couple of crates worth of beer in mine. (some cans needed to be freed from their packaging though to fit)

Also, I'd rather a topbox rack which had some give in it and potentially saving the subframe.

Chris, I just bodged a normal monokey plate using some bolts and random brackets to attach it to my YBR rack.
