Very disappointed to see they charge you for this privilege. (When paying monthly)

Not surprised just disappointed.

It's still cheaper than if buying 2 sets of 6 months. I suppose if you can buy it all in one go, just go for it.

It will cost them a fortune to chase all the messers who take the piss with late payments etc., so even though I can't believe I'm sort-of defending the DVLA ( Confused ) I can understand why they'd do this.

Why chase them? One letter as a courtesy to say 'if you don't pay in 3 days you're not taxed' then simply cancel the tax for the whole month.

People who pay monthly are losers. DVLA is just kicking you when you're down.

It's the code of the West.

Give it time, they'll start to refer to paying a year at a time as the discounted rate.

Not wrong,

I can afford to pay in full but monthly makes life easy and it is only £4 more but it's £4 I shouldn't have to spend.

I tend to just pay the 12 months. It is a piss take that they charge you more to pay every 6 months.

The whole road tax thing still just seems like a stupid way to collect tax. Just put the fuel duty up a bit and them scrap the road tax.

I pay monthly because I cba with the hassle of having it refunded, might as well just do it monthly. That and its unlikely I'd keep something for a tax term anyway.

What happens with the tax refund now. Do you still have to apply for the refund or is it just refunded when you change owners on log book?

It's automatically refunded when you change owners. Just sold a car and got the refund within one week! Shocked

Cheque, or have they joined the 20th century, let alone the 21st?

Ours just arrived for a car we sold. It was a cheque.

All the best

Was tempting to pay my £17 tax monthly, I think it was £1.20 extra.

The few joys of a 125, cheap tax and cheap to run.

Well given that to refund to your bank account requires them to know your account details......

So unless you are paying via DD. Then its going to be a cheque.. Rolling Eyes

DVLA are so unfair y'know.

I went to tax my Land Rover t'other day and I wasn't given the option of direct debit or even getting six months. It was a year or nothing. Sad

(For some reason, they can't seem to divide £0.00 by 2 and add 10% so I can get a 6 month receipt......)

I get it free on the old bike. I'm tempted to go monthly.

Because that doesn't increase their income...

They are not in the business of keeping you on the road legally - they are in the business of raking in cash. It's rather silly to use that illegality stick too early.
