Got a Tiger 1050.

Love it, so far done 50k miles on it, can't imagine wanting any other bike.

Have made some mods to it to get it the way I want, but no stock bike is ever exactly the way you want it.

Engine is stonking, handling is great for a tall adventure-style bike (got it round the 'Ring fairly well), tank range is decent (200 miles), and its comfortable enough to do that distance without feeling crippled.

Cant recommend it enough.

My exact dilemma.
Rode a Tiger Sport yesterday. Really nice stable bike with plenty of ooomph!! The screen was just right. Seating position very upright and comfortable and I found the wind pushed over me at shoulder height. If I ducked my head I felt buffeting, but not in the normal riding position and it was nice seeing right over all the cars.
It would be ace for touring.

It was a really cold shitty day so regretfully I didn't dare throw it into bends.
My neighbour who has a speed triple said he's been on rides with Tiger Sports and has said in the right hands he's seen them handle really well.

All being said, I'm yet to test the Z1000SX which just looks so much sportier. Heart says Z1000SX but Triumph would be a great commuter and tourer.

I know exactly what you mean. I love the look of the Z. But interestingly I sat on them both (haven't ridden either) and the Z felt quite uncomfortable. Seeing as I suffer from the firm seat on the CBR that's not a great thing.

Then there's always the Tracer. Have to have a look at the bike show.

I'm test riding a Z1000SX on Saturday.
Want to test it with the screen in highest and lowest position and give it a roll through some A roads but this'll be weather dependent.

New Versus has just been rated well in MCN I'm told, but still not sexy!!

look fwd to hearing from it. yep my heart's just not in the versys, but i agree, it's very highly rated. tbh, it wasn't long ago i wouldn't have considered a tiger, but tastes change!

The kwak may look nice and sporty, but that may be really unhelpful for touring.

I always find the more wind protection i get, the less physically tired i feel at the end of the day. I dont have to spend several hours battling against the wind.

I have added an adjustable, barn door of a screen on my Tiger, but that keeps nearly all the wind off me and i can ride all day and not feel tired. I can even keep my visor open at 90mph.

Not that i'm biased at all!

yep I find wind comfort and stress on wrists a big deal. i've done what I can to make the cbr a bit more comfortable (and part of me would like to get a few more goodly journeys out of it) but I am tempted by something nice and big and toury. and with more, how do the magazines put it, "usable low down power"!

For me, 95% of my riding is Sunday morning countryside with a cheeky fry up squeezed in.

I'll only tour once or twice a year (family! ) for a few days at a time.

This year it's northern France end of May.

Yep, I could imagine going miles on the Tiger. Really comfy and confidence inspiring to just chew up the miles but I also have to consider pannier off scratching

likewise ellis, I don't do masses of touring to my shame, I'm getting into it a bit now, and in reality this year i'm likely to do a few weekends and maybe one longer trip. but i guess it doesn't matter how often you do those trips you still want to be comfy on them. plus i might just keep the cbr as well

I don't do touring all the time. I do a couple of 1-2 week trips a year.

Mostly I commute, plus quite a bit of weekend hooning. I still can't imagine a better bike for me. (I'm a large fella, so the upright stance suits me)

The Triumph 1050 triple engine has so much torque, I love not having the change down a gear if I want to overtake. Also it has really good acceleration, without the ridiculous top end speed (although I still managed 137mph on an autobahn)
Also the suspension handles the shite British roads, really well. I borrowed a Kwak ZX9R and couldn't take my route to work anywhere near as quick as on the Tiger.

Plus, heated grips, top box, 12v socket. Handy!

140 fire breathin, got the horn, on steroids, pumped up horses.

Riding position was pretty upright, almost like my Hornet and very comfortable for my dodgy back. I tried the screen on its highest and lowest settings. Neither give you that in a bubble protection but obviously miles better than a naked.

Vibrations in your arse at about7k revs, but I rode for ages trying to find a situation where I would be riding at these revs. You're either running up and down the revs or on motorways cruising with the revs below this.
I'm buying one .....fact!!!!

The Tiger Sport would be a great commuter and long distance tourer, but the Z1000SX felt in a different league if we're looking at the sports of sports tourers.

At 230kgs I thought it would feel heavy but it didn't. With positive counter steering it was really planted.

Can't wait to buy one.

Now for the p/x haggling unless I can private sell my Hornet.

Took the cbr round the block for the first time in ages today (after an annoying bumpstart). nice to get back on

Friendly Ellis, how you getting on with the Z1000SX? Thinking of a test ride in a few weeks time, but unlikely to replace my bike until winter in the hope of a better deal.

I'm particularly interested in the vibes. Been noticing on my cbr6 that the vibes in right hand and right foot are awful once you get the taco needle anywhere sensible
