Has anyone owned a modern Guzzi?

I really like the look of this as a second bike for the summer if I could get one at a reasonalbe price.

The one that I looked at was over-valued (by a dealer), early paint flaking had set in on the leading edges, and corrosion was starting on the shaft drive. This was with very few miles, presumably dry. I'd approach with some caution.

I quite like the looks of the Griso. It's a bit long looking and a bit too much style over muscle as well to be my perfect bike though.

Still the 110bhp of the 1200 8v motor, and a dry weight of just over 220kg is powerful enough for the road and should have some grunt too with 73ib/ft. It's lighter than a mk1 V-max by 40kg, but I wonder how much better it would handle?

I'd have a go on one, but I guess that as a sensible rider's bike a CB1300SF would offer more for the same or less money and be easier to live with?

Would far prefer the Griso to anything from Bavarian Motor Works though!

I don't like their car's, and I've never liked the Boxer twin engine or the sound of it TBH. I'm probably slightly poisoned by the Charlie&Ewan bikes too, but I did have a little trickle down the road and back on an R1100S once, and compared to the Firestorm I'd ridden previously I thought it was horrible and too quirky too.

I could be wrong about the Rotax powered singles though, and the Parallel twins like the F800R that does look quite the street tool!

A friend of mine just bought a brand new one. As there's no dealers locally to him (South Cumbria) the supplying dealer delivered it. He's like a dog with two dicks about actually - I must say it looks well, but then I think there's not many brand new bikes that don't look good at some level when they're all new and shiny. It's not really my thing, but to each his own. I'll ask him which dealer supplied his if you wish, how much it cost to get it brought up, that kind of thing if you wish.
Thinking more I think he said it was an Exeter shop?

mate of mine had an aprilia dealership for years, then they forced guzzi on him and he told me they were in "storage" in his showroom as they didn't sell, some bikes had been in stock 2-3 years after delivery

There's something about Guzzis I've always liked. It probably stems from when I was younger and working around the Le Mans I & II, which I still love the look of. Never ridden one though.

I remember reading an article about when Honda insisted on all their dealerships being Honda only, and one long-established and popular place ditched the Jap make and went to Guzzi. He had quite a lot of success with them apparently (sorry, can't remember who it was).

I think it's the kind of bike to have if you've got others as your workhorse or whatever else you like/need a bike for; just something for the occasional sunny Sunday spin, different, quirky. Not something I'd want to have to rely on though. I'm quite taken with the V7 Racer, with the chrome tank - it's just a looks thing really, but I'd like to try one, just to find out what they're about.

I don't want anything new and it would be a sunny afternoon bike so not too worried about the reliability either!

Saying that they are pretty bloody expensive, nothing of the modern range below £5000 on ebay.
