OK I gots me a new TV, it has a USB slot in the back and the function to record if I stick an external hard drive in it.

I have £80 I can afford to spend. Whats the best/biggest hard drive I can get for that kind of wonga.

To keep with the BCF tradition of not answering someones post with an answer related to the specifics of their question.

Have you considered a £5/month BT TV sub? You get the recorder thingy as part of the deal.

Admittedly £80 is 16 months, but it can sort you out with other benefits like series record and 40d/iplayer from your remote.

I did try the HD to TV by USB, but found it too limited. Plus it used it's own filesystem which meant the drive could not be used anywhere else without formatting it and losing everything.

I don't have BT Vision, but used it at my parents and it seems to work well.

I'm not sure how much BT Vision costs if you don't have BT phone though.

I have no phone line/cable or associated broadband.
