Chances of getting SORN fine DVLA?

Purchased a motorbike back in late November last year. Filled in the log book, took the new keepers slip out.
I also filled in the V890 form to make it SORN as i had no intention to tax it until spring.
Waited a few weeks to recieve the V5. Contacted the previous owner who said he only had a chance to send it recently (around xmas time), so i waited longer and rang the DVLA a couple of times to see if they had got it.

Never got it so i filled in the form to request a V5 and sent it off with the new keepers slip. Finally got the V5 a couple of weeks ago and went straight online to declare SORN. When doing this it notified me that there has been no tax on the bike since November and i could get fined for it.

Am i likely to get a fine letter this year? I also received a road tax refund in my name on the bike i had purchased (should have been in the previous owners name)

Vehicle has a registration certificate (V5C)

The seller must:

complete section 6 of the V5C (‘new keeper or new name/new address details’)
sign the declaration in section 8 (you must do this too)
fill in section 10 (‘new keeper supplement’) and give it to you - this section is also known as the V5C/2
send the V5C to DVLA
DVLA aims to send out a new V5C to you within 2 to 4 weeks of getting the old V5C from the seller.

If you don’t get it within 4 weeks:

complete form V62 - ‘Application for a vehicle registration certificate’
send it to DVLA with the V5C/2 given to you by the seller - if you don’t send in the V5C/2, you’ll have to pay a fee

The new owner (you) must send in the details to DVLA not the seller, you cannot purchase or sell a vehicle with a valid VED licence after Oct 1st 2014 so how you got the remaining VED back is a total mystery to me as only seller can apply for a refund or receive a refund.
