Hi,
I have a Peugeot Speedfight 100c that I've just given a complete overhaul including new air filter, spark plug and a complete strip down and clean of the carburettor.
The problem I have is that it seems to be running very rich. The fuel consumption is very poor, I'm only achieving 50 miles per tank! (7 litre tank). The spark plug is black and fouled with oil. When starting from cold it is almost impossible to get the thing to pull away. You open the throttle and the engine just sounds like it's misfiring with no power and plumes of thick smoke (I think it's blue smoke) from the exhaust. Eventually you pull away slowly and as you get up to speed the smoke subsides and the engine bursts into life. When the engine is warm it seems to run fine with plenty of power, acceleration and speed. The only noticeable problem is the poor fuel consumption.
I checked the jets when I dismantled the carb and they are the correct numbers according to the manual. The air filter is brand new and dry. The scooter is completely unmodified. The mixture screw is set at 1 3/4 turns out as according to the manual. The oil pump is set correctly according to the manual.
The only thing I haven't checked is the operation of the auto choke.
I'm guessing the 50 miles per tank is not normal and the spark plug should be a tan colour? Any ideas most gratefully appreciated |

Have you done a compression test and checked the ignition timing?
I would suspect piston rings, timing, or a fuel mixture problem. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)
