Transalp yellow residue

Hi guys,

First post here, about my first bike.

Could you please take a look at the attached picture of the engine on my 650 transalp (2001) and tell me what you think this yellow/orange residue is?

Old oil. Have you ever had the cam covers removed? All my Africa Twins (same basic engine) used to have a film of oil over the engine if the cam covers were removed for anything. The rubber gasket which is meant to be reusable doesn't really like it. Never caused me a problem though, apart from the mess.

Let's cut to the chase. Clean it off with a degreaser, see if it re-occurs, don't fret unless it does, and probably not even then - it's hardly gushing out.

Yep still the original engine. I was thinking that possibly because it's only averaged around 500 miles a year since new that some of the seals might have perished somewhere?

Tried getting it off with degreaser but its not shifting! I guess that means it's pretty old.

Appreciate I may just be worrying too much here, first bike and all that!

you sure that aint petrol gum or staining?? see clamp....

has the bike been smelly in the past....a heavenly smell ( for some of us ) when you walk into the shed or garage this has been stored in??

burnt on wd-40 .. only petrol wit a stiff short bristled paint brush will remove...
and make sure you wash it off b4 you start the thing.
