Was riding into work today on the M3 heading into London just before Twickenham. The route is one I've not taken before and the traffic was heavy.
Coming up to a roundabout where two lanes become three I was overtaking all the stationary traffic. I went to pull back in just as the third lane appeared. At this point a van moved out (without indicating) to get in the third lane. I swerved as much as I could safely do. Hit the horn, got past most of the van when the topbox hit it. Gave me a little knock and wobbled a bit before carrying on.
Never had an accident in a car or on a bike (and I want to keep it that way). That was a bit close and a bit scary. Nice reminder of how easy it is to get knocked off.
Was pleased that I didn't lose my cool and the van driver apologised. Perhaps he'll look next time.
Do any of the guys here use the M3 to get to work? I found it absolute hell. Before the M25 everyone sits in the middle and outside lanes. Once you get into London and the 50 limit kicks in the roads are too narrow to filter between the lanes. Think I'll stick to the A3...

Thumbs Up Glad you made it OK. Next time forget the horn until you've avoided an accident. Then worry about dealing with the driver Very Happy

BTW Just had a look at your profile cos is sounded like my neck of the woods. I live in Guildford as well. Nice to see another CBR rider in the area Very Happy

Always use a horn a lot around London village, people, dogs, couriers, vans etc just seem to gravitate to the bike!!
Whereabouts do you live baldy600rr? I'm near the Co-Op off the Aldershot road. Give me a pm if you fancy a ride out some time. I normally go alone as none of my friends ride. Thumbs Up

Mate I used to live in the Aldershot Road. I now live on the edge of Onslow Village. I have always ridden on my own as none of my mates ride either as well so I'll look forward to a ride out with you. Be warned though, I'm not that quick. Whenever you fancy a go drop me a PM. Very Happy
