Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone has seen any continuous rim protectors for tyre fitting, that go right round the rim?

I fit my own tyres and I have multiple of the usual rim protectors like this that I use:

https://www.rapidonline.com/Tools-Equipment/Rim-Protector-2pc-89-6643/?source=googleps&utm_source=googleps&IncVat=1&gclid=CN2NzITC6cMCFaTnwgod4VwAZQ

And while I'm ok using these, now that I'm getting my wheels painted, I'd prefer to have the extra protection of a continual strip.

Thanks for any suggestions. Thumbs Up

Tell that to anyone who pays other people to put their tyres on a rim. You could say the same about bikes in general or any other hobby.

I change tyres once a year, it's not worth the effort to do it myself. Thumbs Up

I did change tyres on my mates MZ myself, easy job really. You need a lot of soap water to protect the rim.

Are you trying to protect your rims from metal tyre levers, the garage I worked at had tyre levers with plastic protection on them

I didn't know soap water protected against metal on metal. I might have to fill my engine up with that and its magical lubricating effects.

If you have some nice spotless rims on a bike and want to keep them that way, protectors are a good idea, but I like the idea of hose pipe... Thumbs Up

As you can probably see, I'm no stranger to tyre removal/fitting. I use a proper tub of tyre soap, which doesn't protect anything.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll have a look for those plastic coated levers as they could be good to supplement my rim protectors.

I use a length of hose pipe, I always fit and remove my tyres since I was charged £30 to fit a £10 tyre I got from Paddy Laughing

I use a rag and a shovel to break the bead, then remove the tyre with hose pipe and levers to remove.

Putting new one on I will lather it up with soap* then push on by hand, if stuck ratchet strap the tyre to the rim to stop it moving around then lever it on.

*rarely use tyre soap normally fairy liquid or bath soap.
