HI all,

I currently ride an old 2001 Kawasaki ZX6R to work and back a total journey of 100 miles a day.

I'm looking at purchasing a 1000cc commuter bike with a decent tank range and comfy yet fun ride. I've considered the following but cannot decide please help! my budget is £5000 plus I get free fuel at work and an allowance to maintain the bike so I should be pretty much ok.

- Yamaha Fazer 1000cc
- Honda 1100 Super blackbird
- BMW GS 1200 (bit too expensive otherwise probably my first choice)

Thanks in advanced

Pete.

2008-2010 Triumph Sprint 1050 or Honda VFR800

No experience of either, but would want to try them.

I'd go with a Yamaha FZ1. 150bhp, upright riding position and it doesn't scream "steal me".

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

My Journey is from Southend to Lewisham so the roads are mainly dual carriage way which include the M25 and the dreaded A2!

What sort of riding conditions?

Why 1000cc?

What do you like and dislike about the ZX6R?

If you're considering the big beemer, had you considered a car?

That money should just about get you a fugly blade with ABS.
You don't get much more top end, but do get a big chunk of mid-range ontop of the GSXR; ideal for a boring commuter.
Have the option of adding an aftermarket traction control utilising the ABS sensors too.

Is this a straight purchase allowance or some kind of finance deal?

I ask because PCP finance on BMWs, particularly, the R1200GS, is surprisingly low because of the high retained value.

Same for Harleys. That is why they're ridden by accountants.

Feck the I wanna be like Charlie&Ewan 1200GS.

I'd want the K1300S with full Akrapovic system fitted. I'd probably go BMW over GSX1300R or ZZR1400, as it does look a lot less fugly than the Kwak, and I wouldn't mind a ride on one.

100 miles a day, not very fast roads, someone else is paying for the fuel. I'd be going for a pan euro or similar large tourer.

Nothing dreadful about the A2 it's big and wide with plenty of room to filter. Lots easier than rush hour on the A4/A40 for example. The last bit from Kidbrooke to Lewisham on the South Circular is a bit sticky but still not too bad.

I would throw DL1000 into the mix for consideration. Bit of an ugly duckling but sound large commuter/tourer with road presence. Narrow for a big bike, decent 21L tank, decent suspension and of course that wonderful TL engine tuned for more torque and mid-range. How can you not like it?

GSX1250FA - perfect! Comfy, fast, fun to ride and cheap to buy a good one. My new one was only £6900. I would not get a bike too old/high mileage if I depended on it for work. The Suzuki is good value for money and reliable to boot.

BMW K1300 or FJR1300. Both Shaft drive which will be a godsend with that kind of commute!

Of the three, if it were me, the GS but swap out the tank and replace with the 33l version.

I've done hundred mile a day commutes and what I hated most was filling up with petrol every other day. It sounds weird but it drove me mad. Loved the riding, hated the filling up.

With the GS' extended tank, you'll be filling up every 3 - 4 days, not every 2 and as weird as it sounds, this will make a huge difference.

Narrow for a big bike, comfy and I do a segment of that journey everyday on one.
