 |

I bought a scottoiler second hand off the dreaded ebay and fitted it,
The fecking thing wont prime, or work at all in any way.
No matter what setting I have it doesnt work, ive attached the vacuum hose and with the bike on, off... nothing.
I tried blowing it from the drip pipe with an air line, bubbles did go up through the tube but nothing came out. It's like the system is too strong for my bike to suck.
anyone else had similar problems?
edit; When the bike is running I can see the diaphragm at the top of the oiler flutter. ____________________ KAWASAKIIIII |

From what I remember, your meant to use the filler bottle to prime it. Take the breather hose off the rubber bit that you plug into the fill port* and connect a scottoiler bottle. Then hold the bottle upright so no oil comes out and squeeze until the oil reaches the end of the tube.

I'm not talking about the actual pipeline feeding my chain, i mean the actual unit itself, is dispensing nothing at all. There's a brass nipple at the bottom and I removed it, blew it through, and still nothing.
The unit I filled with duck oil for now, because it's easy to fill with that. ____________________ KAWASAKIIIII |

In the priming mode, you need to apply positive pressure by squeezing a bottle (fairly hard), with the bottle attached to the breather tube, until you can see the dispensing tube fill with oil and start coming out the final drip nozzle. But it should never come out at more than a dribble - perhaps one drop a second.
For normal use, you dial it back until it's dropping in the region of once every 90 to 120 seconds.
The valve should never be in a condition where it's freely flowing oil through. At its most open (priming), it should still be very restricted. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

Very little to go wrong on a scotoiler.
You do know all it does is open a small brass needle valve at the bottom when the diaphragm gets sucked open (the diaphragm is attached to the valve by a plastic rod). The oil runs out under gravity when the valve is open. The adjuster sets how far the valve can open.
If you can physically see the diaphragm move up when the engine runs, that bit's working. If oil isn't coming out, the valve is either not opening or is blocked.
Remember it needs to be facing downhill.
If the valve appears to be opening, it must be blocked/gummed up. I'd give it a damned good wash out with hot, soapy water and try again. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Another possability is a punctured diaphragm. The top chamber above the diaphragm needs to be airtight or the engine can't suck the valve open properly.
I have dismantled a scotoiler before to raise the valve height to use thicker oil so it is do-able. Was a while ago now though so I can't remember the exact details. I suspect I just popped the top off. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
