Okay, so I have lost my counterpart (think I took it to Cyprus when I was going to hire a car.).

Anyway I need to renew my license as it is a photo card and I have had it 10 years.

I have seen the form for a replacement counterpart which costs £20.

But, they are making the counterpart obsolete from June.

Would I be okay (if I don't get stopped), not bothering to replace the license until then. (3 months???)

£20 for a piece of paper, that will be obsolete and just shredded by the DVLA seems silly.

Any thoughts.

LOL!! mine was out of date by 5 years when I sent it off, I got caught speeding and pulled several times in that time. Nobody noticed.

The only person that noticed was at the bank when I used it as ID, it was the clerk that told me it was out of date when I had'nt noticed.

Isn't a change of address free? Just apply to change address (family members home), get both bits free. Change it back later.

Yes but you need the serial numbers on both parts to do that. If you're doing it offline you use the counter part to change address.
