Hi Everybody,

Was wondering if anybody on here could help me as I'm having some trouble with the electronics on a new 1978 GS550 project I have bought.

I have been through a scheme to check that I have all of the parts before trying to re-wire. However, I seem to be missing a Fuse box and Ignitor!

Is there anyway I can side step the problems for the time being to see if the bike starts / runs before I strip the bike down for cleaning?

TBH, I'd just suggest shelling out for a Dyna ignitor at this point. It helps simplify the electrics that bit further, and it's significantly easier to track one down than it is an obsolescent ignitor that was never much good anyway.

Regarding the fuse box, I'd buy a bog standard blade fuse box and wire it in.

Yeah, a '78 550 should be points, but they're 36 years old now, and the GS series isn't exactly known for its stellar electrics. The Dyna-S is a cracking bit of kit that solved all of the weak electrical issues I was grappling with on my 650.

What I meant was, he's probably not missing an ignitor box - it most likely never had one in the first place.

A more modern ignition would do it wonders.

Dodgy fuses don't cause weak sparks, which was an issue that it also had.
