Looking to buy one for my Seat Leon, any recommendations?

Only issue I can foresee is that I don't have traditional wipers, I have those that wipe from the sites which leave dirt behind the rearview mirror.

Was thinking of this, and mounting it between the dash and windscreen (bottom) but then read/heard about heat issues and as the screen heater vents are in that area maybe it's not for me.

Bit costly to.

I'm tempted to just use my old GoPro with velcro mounting. It serves no other purpose. Just grab one from ebay and wipe it when you leave for work.

I have a Blackvue DR600GW, I bought it 2 weeks ago, since then its captured 3 incidents. First one was about 15mins after installing it when some d!ckhead passed me on the left then forced me into oncoming traffic.
Then yesterday some old c*nt went berserk at me in a car park and wanted a fight with me, chased me round the car park on foot then when i stopped the car and looked out the window at him i could see the realisation in his face that i had now stopped and he may get the fight he wanted, he disappeared back to his car shouting more abuse. A few mins later he threatened me with his car by driving it aggressively at me. Rolling Eyes got it all on camera

I did try using my GoPro but it was a pain in the arse, Its not discreet and would invite a thief to smash your window and take it.
You need to start and stop it.
You'll need to do housekeeping on the SD card every few hours when it fills up.
It doesn't record GPS information like speed and location or have a shock/G sensor.
The suction bracket is massive.

Some dashcams have a parking mode, you will need to hardwire it for that to work.

depends where you look for it.
If your looking to spend £10 on a dashcam then don't bother, it might say it records in 1080p but the frame rate and bitrate will be so low that trying to find detail (eg number plates) in the images will be very difficult. Low light recording will also be dire.

I was looking at them for a while before buying mine, have a look on youtube for example footage and reviews.

Sj4000 about £40 from China and comes with more mounts than you know what to do with. I've had one in my van for 12 months and still working great. Records in HD, switches on/off with ignition and when it reaches the end of the SD card it re-writes over the oldest videos, so you can forget about unless there is something you want to save.

There is a good test review on the Internet somewhere, try and Google it.

Another option is to just buy a mount and use your smartphone. But obviously you have to set it up every journey so not as convenient.

First I'd like to apologise for youtube mucking up the quality a bit,

I wanted to get a helmet camera, but didn't want to waste the money on a gopro or similar (had visions of it being torn off and bouncing down the road) so settled on the cheapest one I could find (£35)

Apart from the wind noise it does a decent enough job I think:

And the camera in question:

I'm doing that at the moment. CaroO software, Note 4 and an Arkon mount. Footage is really good. Mount stays on the window 24/7, so it's no fuss. I just pop smartphone in holder, press Start in CaroO, done.

Being able to review and share footage immediately is a big plus. Free version or £2.90 for paid = cheap. I capture all my car journeys and commutes this way.

I don't use it at work though, because that would be 9 hours of constant writes to the phone's internal memory. It would have to be on charge too, and lots of heat + relentless writes to memory every single day makes me think the phone would meet an early grave. So my phone protects my insurance NCB, but work can sort their own camera system out if they want one.

Lots of options here:
https://www.banggood.com/buy/Dash-cam.html
For £63 delivered you can get one that has shock sensor, GPS and records at 3k.

1/4 of that price for 1080p and no gps.

I haven't tried any, but no someone that recently ordered a couple of the £63 ones - not arrived yet.

It's the SJ4000 option then.

Checkout DashCamTalk website/forums. There's enough on there to keep you going for days.

Techmoan tends to be the authority on these things, with his current favourite being the A118/B40 Wedge Dashcam. He has recently posted though that he's about to release a review of what he considers to be the best Dashcam so far. Unfortunately he's not said what it is, but the review is due any day now.

I've just ordered an X1 Panorama as it has a separate camera and recorder and also has a parking mode. It also has a capacitor rather than battery so should last much longer and will stand up to permanently being charged much better.

I recently bought DOD LS460. I checked on youtube and decided.

I had old dash cam with dead li-po battery, I bought new small li-po and soldered on it. I'm using it for rear for my sedan. It has no rear wiper, so I thought spending too much for rear isn't worth for it.
Before li-po battery swap, I read these talks.
https://forum.dashcamtalk.com/threads/inside-the-ls430w-incl-battery-capacity-and-a-rattle-fix.3466/page-3
https://forum.dashcamtalk.com/threads/battery-safety.6195/

I agree with daesimps, dashcamtalk has useful information.

edit
some (often cheap) models doesn't have clock inside which is adjusted by GPS each time, so they forget time once battery or capacitor went flat. I heard Transcend drivepro200 has small capacitor and its clock will be reset if you don't drive for 3 or 4 days.
You must use your smartphone and application to adjust its clock.
I didn't like it, so I avoided buying it for my rear.
Battery is really important because when you turn of your key, you can't record the last file if the battery is dead. That's usually the most important file when you were hit by other car. So I usually carefully read the comments about its battery or capacitor, and its clock.

Oldish thread, but replying to say I bought a standard lens Mobius from Joovoo (got the car kit) and it's excellent.

Changed from battery to capacitor, tested in the house and it's working as expected, just need to find some time to put the hardwire kit before my journey south next Wed.

Thanks for the suggestion, particularly those who said Mobius.

If you are looking for a dashcam, they may cost a little more but I think a mobius is a good balance between cost and quality.

Fingers crossed I never have a reason to upload something for you to watch.

Another thumbs up for the mobius, developer actually seems to be listening to feedback and adding what people want.

I'm using mine on my R/C quadcopter, and my bike, my car mount arrived for it yesterday.

There's even a waterproof case available now for £15 so you can use it on your bike.

Bit of a hiccup with it today, recorded my journey to work and to the dentist, also most of the way home but then stopped.

I think it's a power issue over SD card, but will check the SD card to make sure Samsung didn't send me a fake (came as part of my phone deal when I got the S4)

Had similar issues with mine, vibrations caused it to turn off, was the SD card shaking loose, causing camera to power off. Bit of PVC tape on the back of the SD card has given a tighter fit, it's now fine.

Maybe, as I am testing the location I only used the velco sticky rather than the 3m stuff.

Good advise.

use the information in this playlist to make an informed decision.

I don't know why more people don't watch techmoan for advice after all, he goes in depth on the camera(s)!!

I did and made my informed decision for a camera that met my needs.

Yes there are cheaper ones, my Dad bought the one Techmoan used to recommend and its ok but has no support. By the time I looked to buy he was recommending a different one, looking to buy that there were so many models and variants I gave up.

More I talked to other people, they all seemed to recommend the mobius.

Techmoan is a great channel though, already subbed.
