PostPosted: 13:32 - 25 Feb 2015    Post subject: IGNORE - Insurance Keeping Salvage - How to let DVLA know? Reply with quote

After much ado TP insurance has decided they will pay me for the salvage of my bike. They've asked me to send the V5 and spare key to them and they'll issue a cheque.

Now I've heard so many stories of people being shafted by DVLA months/years after selling salvage to another party because DVLA records were not updated correctly.

Is there a process or form by which I can notify DVLA that I have relinquished ownership of the bike and to whom? Basically to cover my arse should they decide to do me for something in the future.

Many thanks

PS. I've paid for new bike too... all will be revealed shortly. Very Happy

1. Keep a copy of all forms,

2. Get proof of postage.

I wouldn't rely on the Interpretations Act, at least in Englandshire.

Until they get around to letting us do change of keeper online (promised aaaany day now) I'm sending everything recorded signed for.

Sorry Paddy... really am mate, just I'm away from home a lot these days so making suitable arrangements to get it back and sell on to you would have been a massive logistical ballache.

I'm sure there'll be a few more total losses before summer arrives! Smile

Not quite. Solicitor confirmed they had infact been chasing the wrong guy and that this is a genuine case of identity theft. It's being passed over to MIB this week.

My insurance confirmed liability can't be passed to me whatever the outcome because of the footage. So my no claims will stay intact even though the case is still under investigation.

Shocked Are you sure that's not some joker impersonating an insurer? Wink

Hopefully he was truthful about what he said Confused

When I rang up about the new bike they confirmed I'm still allowed to show my NCB. Conversation was recorded and now have new certificate showing my NCB on it.
