Good afternoon Gents (or ladies?),

I'm looking to purchase my own bike in the very new future. I've only had the pleasure of riding my In-Law's Road King. Beautiful bike. I like the way it rides but sometimes I feel like if I were on a 50 minutes ride I would start feeling cramped. Here's the issue; I'm sitting at about 6' 7" (~200 Centimeters. Not sure if there's UK folk on here) 255 lbs (~155 Kgs). Like with most things in life, i'm having trouble finding something that I fit on/in comfortably. Is there anyone out there that can share their experiences with finding a bike to suit their freakish body's needs? Or slightly modifying to suit such needs

Some insight: I'm not into street bikes/crotch rockets. I want it loud and rumbly.

I'm looking into HD's, Victory, Triumph mainly. Any suggestions are appreciated.

We're mostly UK folk here Wink

There are lots of large bikes, are you set on something of the cruiser persuasion? At 6'7 you're not quite into freakishly tall territory so plenty of options still.

I am absolutely set on the cruiser persuasion. Love the HD softail (slim). Sitting on one and riding it for an extended period of time is vastly different. I'm paranoid that I will buy one and end up being uncomfortable after awhile. Or i will have completley overlooked viable options

I have been looking at Triumph. Their website is kind of garbage so I cant do a whole lot of research on them. And I know literally 0 people that have ridden or owned one. I'd be basing my interest solely off of aesthetics

You may want to retry that word.

You've joined a UK forum that is in the main not to keen on cruisers and also loves to rip the piss out of anyone and anything.

Stay for the laughs but don't expect useful advice on the merits of a HD Soft tail compared to a Victory Judge.

Anyway buy a Triumph Rocket 3.

Is there any difference at all between these?

After all, they both proudly display a 'MADE* IN THE U S OF A' stamp on mainly chinese made parts that degrade after being exposed to anything above 0.02%RH, they both sound like the timing needs looking at and neither of them go round corners particularly well.

*The term 'made' appears to nowadays refer mainly to 'assembled'.

Valid point. I am, after all, more concerned with quality than a brand and an excuse to wear my new assless chaps

If I had to go cruiser I'd be looking at vmax, diavel or rocket 3, not sure any of them are particularly n00b friendly, nor particularly cruiser in image, more muscle bike.

Harley are proper slow and uncomfortable. Ride one if you want every other biker to hate you by brand association and thus be required to join their owners group so you can pretend to have biker mates and have disturbingly civilised and disneyfied fun.

Triumph rocket is a huge bike. You will look regular sized on it.

Classic vmax if you want US cruiser styling and american handling. There's no electronics taming them though, so get heavy handed and you will pull a wheelie whilst doing a rolling burnout and then most likely panic, land badly and die horribly on a bed of slaughtered kittens.

Modern vmax is both more refined and has more oomph.

Any big touring bike designed for two up riding will cope with your weight, even my mighty xv535 that Haynes claim made 46 horses is good for a payload of over 200kg, but its a tad cramped for a 6 footer.

Maybe a low seat cruiser is always going to be cramped because geometry. Perhaps a big adventure bike might fit your size better?

Perhaps a conversation with suspention specialist may improve the ride. Hagon are reasonably priced and advertise their weight adaption services openly.

if i was you, and granted im not,
if you are trying to avoid sports bikes, then i would be looking at bmw gs adventures, and triumph tiger explorer,
im just shy of your height, and i pretty much look like a gangly retard on just about everything.
personally i hate cruisers of all shapes and sizes, but i can understand the peer pressure that you might be feeling,
but thats no excuse to have to ride a bad handling, under powered, badly assembled, gas guzzling, pre-technology lamp of uglyness ...

do your self a favour before you deem every thing foreign evil, and try out a few bikes

Thanks for the insight. I'm planning on going to look at a Triumph dealer this weekend. Haven't seen or heard too many comments on the general quality. And I'm not finding any great reviews of the rocket itself. I'm going to keep looking. Someone must have an opinion on that gargantuan 2,294cc

There was one in for a service at my local independent today. The sports bike fan and the harley fan think it is too big, but hilarious and not a pain in the ass to work on. Ride magazine reviewed it a few years ago, back issues probably available.

Also consider the Thunderbird if you must cruiser, and the Tiger in its various incarnations for a do it all bike that might fit or be easily adjusted to do so.

Then go to a BMW dealer and try a GS or maybe the naked boxer thingy, r1200r is it? Be really sure you want a cruiser and not any other kind of bike before you buy one.

Point-of-order, (modern) Harleys aren't that bad. Think mid-40s for a Sportster XL1200.

Fuel is energy is power, and they're all torque. You can shove more fuel through than they can use, but European / Californian emissions regs have helped with that.

I'm 6'5" if you want to be comfortable and like Triumphs/HD the ONLY option is one of the Tigers. I've ridden a Rocket 3, while it is a big bike I didn't feel it was built for a big rider.

However you don't like the style so there is no point asking for advice when you are clearing going to buy a cruiser despite something like a Tiger being better in every way for you.
