The Voice of Reason indeed..
Well I'm not necessarily looking for the loudest pipe.. Just a deep throaty grumble which i hear the Skorpion has in abundance at all rpms even with the DB Killer in. The Akra has that beautiful sound after 5k apparently.. And that's without the DB Killer.. But yes that sticker does prick up ears and turn heads. As does the price tag I guess its worth investing.
Skudd, i don't think you would be saying that if you heard the stock pipe on the MT-07.. *tried to heard the stock pipe* ____________________ 2014 Yamaha MT-07 ABS Deep Armour

Oh; a twin. Great if you like your fart sounding really loud and wet .
I wouldn't take claims of the different sounds too seriously. They mostly come from people that have paid Akrapovic money and feel the need to justify it.
I wouldn't consider any of them 'worth investing' in personally.
As it goes, the only exhaust I've bought for a road bike was an Akrapovic - for my KTM690 and because it was an official one I could an official map for - the exhaust saved about 5kg, which is a decent difference for off road riding.
Also got an M4 system for a race SV, but only because my bike already had one but it was a bit knackered. |

Funnily enough I do like them loud and wet!
I was actually saying that the Skorpion sounds better than the Akra by most accounts. Apparently the Akra isn't really worth it unless you take out the baffle which is extremely inconvenient and doesn't make it easy on you should you change your mind. That being said the Akra does make a notable difference in performance... Whichhhh I'm not actually looking for as it's an A2 restricted bike!
All i really want is a bike that doesn't sound like a timid lawnmower. ____________________ 2014 Yamaha MT-07 ABS Deep Armour

G, your not going to like this, but suppose were were talking Vauxhall Corsa's for example.
Your logic would say buy the 1.6 VXR model as it's out of the box the best model and faster than say a 1.4sport etc.
But I'd always want to know how much the engine in the 1.4L car was being held back from it's full potential by noise, emissions, fuel type tolerance, and mpg etc etc.
I'd be always curious to know how much extra power the ideal exhaust (performance wise) and ideal induction and fueling/ECU mapping for outright maximum figures and best possible performance could be?
It's the same with bikes, though less so as people do tend to buy bigger bikes to a point when they want more performance, and the choice of high performance models is better than it is with cars etc.
But my point is, wanting to know what your existing motor is capable of if the only requirement from aftermarket parts is power. Wether that's Iains 50/70cc tuned ped, my KMX125, Someone with a CB1000SF etc, it's all about knowing what the motor is capable of with fairly easy to do modifications and changes.
Also what do you suggest to ZZR1400 owners that want that extra few bhp or a bit more drive in the midrange that the std machine is lacking? |
