First 'big one' Very Happy. Thanks to all for your comments on bike choice threads, mine or others.

XJ6 Diversion, '09 - 550 miles on the clock, private buy.
Took her for a couple of rounds this weekend and makes me smile, a lot.

It's now up to 610 miles so it's 'first service' is up.
What are your thoughts on a bike of 5 years old and this service? Should I take it to a garage and have it checked over for everything once or should I just change the oil and filter myself? The rear brake is a tiny bit squeaky but nothing worrying.

Cheers,

D

Tidy bike. Got past mot's to confirm mileage?
610 miles is nothin on a 1 year old bike - maybe its just the sceptic in me.
Oil change and filters you can do yourself, work on those chicken strips and consider buying a battery soon.
Thumbs Up

Mmm, nice. Plenty of legitimate low mileage bikes around, and that one looks lovely. Thumbs Up

To avoid confusion - wasn't questioning the mileage, just saying "wow amazing buy" Thumbs Up

Now, now, I too was a bit wary when I saw the mileage for a late 2009 model, but the 1st owner / seller had all mots to vouch for it, plus you could tell from meeting him and his tidy place. I got a good bit of advice about being able to 'look the owner in the eye', as suggested.

There are indeed lots of low mileage private buys around, just got to keep looking... I scoured for a good three months with several disappointments.

I'll do the oil change myself and learn a thing or two...usually more.

Had a 2011 Diversion, certainly did the job but did once put its hand on my cock and give it a jiggle. Not the most exciting bike to ride but does what it says on the tin.

I did find the build quality a little cheap, especially fasteners and nuts. Managed to snap a few missor quite easily too!

Well it should have had 4 services already...... You go by miles done or years.....

But seriously. 550 miles over 5 years. WTF was the owner doing..... Sheer madness having a bike sat around doing nothing for such a long period of time.

Get a proper oil filter socket if you've not got one. Makes it a 10 minute job.

Give all you're nuts bolts and anything metal, not the brakes though, a spray and buff of ACF50! Keeps your bike looking like it does now!
