Might seem like the stupidest question you've heard in a while but i need to clarify whether leaving a bike outside without a cover is OK. I've been riding a 125 for a year which I covered religiously every time I got off it regardless of weather or time of year.

About to get myself a brand spanking new Yamaha and wondering whether I was over zealous.. Am I likely to get rust (or any other) problems by leaving it out without a cover or is it really no problem (bikes are designed to be ridden in all weathers after all). I figured it might actually save me some time on cleaning! Wink

A garage is not an option unfortunately.

It's probably not essential but if you're used to using the cover why not? It's just a waste of money else ain't it?

I only owned a cover for my 125, I'm talking about my new MT-07 Smile My point being I don't know whether its worth buying a 100 quid cover from Yamaha. I got the last one complimentary with purchase.

Hmm. Then is suppose it's up to you. I haven't covered my CBR, only had it a month but I haven't noticed any rust or whatever. £100 is fucking steep though. Wouldn't a cheapo Oxford one do?

Haha yeah init just! Well I was hoping for some info on longterm storage.. Don't think anything would rust in a month to be honest Razz Mmm yeah maybe, I don't want to settle for something that isn't the right fit though, would much rather invest in the real deal if its worth it.

Fantastic Smile and nah I'm aware the frame is hardly gonna fall apart after a month in the wet, but just make sure to let the bike cool down before covering as it's very bad juju apparently.

A cover doesn't just protect it from the elements, it protects it from the prying eyes of unsavoury characters.

It's a security device as well as a weather shelter.

Fair point, it definitely would protect it from me if i was a thief though.. Seeing a cover would just make me want to see what's under there!

Supposedly it makes the water on the bike condense due to the heat of the engine and exhaust and basically steams it. So it gets in all the places it wouldn't normally. And yeah if I was gonna nick something I'd probably go for something covered as it's more likely to be expensive and fast :/

Exactly why I cover my bike.

That, and trying to take it off without the key fob on you will trigger the alarm. So it's essentially acting as a semi-guaranteed tripwire for potential thieves at the same time as weather protection.

Having said that, the cover's getting dirty and I need to figure out how to clean it. It's doing the opposite of it's job atm and making my bike dirty xD
