Yes he's saying hi. It's a recognition of your mutual respect for motorcycling.

Do a subtle nod back or an outrageous head tilt, whatever you fancy.

I love the fact bikers do it!

You're not really part of the 'biking community' until you've posted a picture of your CBR.

With a fish on it.

I thought, if the noddee (you in this case) were on a smaller bike than the nodder, then the noddee must stand on the foot pegs and give a small bow?

Its traditional for new riders to hold up the middle finger
when other riders nod at them to show its your first year of riding.

Often, riders will follow you after this greeting
in order to congratulate you on your brave new adventure.

If you see group of bikers parked up, its good manners for newbies
to go up and hug them all by way of introduction

After a few years, you'll get bored of it. I rarely ever nod these days. If you're offended, too bad.

And here I am slumming it with shredded tuna in a can.

On second thoughts, I may be eating cat food.

You can nod or not. You can nod back, or not. Up to you really. I nodded to other riders all the time when I started riding, now I do it when I feel like it. If another biker nods and I notice I'll almost always nod back though. I like it best when it's a traditional crusier rider with the pisspot helmet and leather jacket etc, you nod and they nod back or turn their head like it's the most casual thing in the world. It's like a subtle acknowledgement that there's many ways to enjoy biking and they can all be good.

Whatever, I'm rambling... Embarassed

No, no it isnt.

Once a bike is purchased, the rider has to accept/participate in the protocols that come with.
If I don't get a return nod it means the nodee has practically signed his/her death warrant.

Just a heads up. Wink

Was out riding yesterday, nodded at a guy on a sports tourer, ignored, nodded at a guy on a great looking sports bike, ignored, put my hand out to a girl on a CBR, ignored. The next rider I see is getting the cut-throat gesture.

I don't bother to make a sandwich. I eat it straight from a tin Mr. Green Proteins Cool It's quite tasty.
You cannot do the same with very cheap tuna chunks... yuck!
