Got Aldi gear?

Just popped to my local Aldi today for their motorcycle gear sale. came away with 2 pairs of boots and one jacket and trousers. Here's what I think of it.

Jacket & trousers - bloody good for the price. No removable liner in the jacket so you won't be wearing it in high summer though it does have a couple of zip-up vents on the front. This thing is heavy and has plenty of soft armour. Trousers equally are comfortingly heavy again with soft armour though a bit short in the legs and arse so if you have a long bottom half you might find they don't fit. Overall I think the sizes are a bit on the tight side. I'm 5-10 and 14/5 stone and I had to buy XL to get them over my regular clothes.

Boots are the same as last year. Fairly good heel but soft in the upper so if you're looking for a strong boot don't look here. I can say that they will be waterproof for a good while at least because my last ones were.

All in all, I'd say if you're on a budget (or like me work on a building site and don't want to trash good gear with all the dust and crap flying around) you could do a LOT worse. I paid £200 for the lot which is £30 less than I paid for my SMX-6 boots a fortnight ago.

Had a look today as well. The jacket and trousers looks decent, I've already got textiles though. The trousers have heel loops which is probably something to do with the Class 2 CE.

The tank bag looked good for the money too but the zips looked like sieves and there's a seperate raincover. Found Oxford tank & tailer of similar size for £26 on Amazon so went for that instead.

I just nipped out and got the trousers (XL) which are roomy around the waist for me (I'm 36" ish including jeans) but can be tightened of course. They seem a bit tight though when the leg is bent/in riding position but they'll do (I'm 5'11'').

Gloves as well - they seem decent and not unlike my RST ones - there's a thinsulate layer so might not get much use in the coming months.

I got the baselayers, boots and tank bag.
The layers seem reasonable, the sizes fair. I went for the large as I'm a large in other items (36 waist) and they fit fine - slightly large if anything.
There were a fair amount of people looking and buying when I went just after ten, so if there's anything specific you're after I'd get there sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately Ibe just spent £300+ on waterproofs or I'd have bought them too. They seemed very fairly priced.

I just came back with some gear from there. I did buy the lock but it's for my second bike that is in a locked garage with a van in front of it and two bikes in front of that so not too worried about how good it is. I also bought the compression layers as I wanted a second set and the chest guard. The lock seems pretty heavy but it does state it is made in China so I wouldn't rely on it for everyday use.

The locks looked awful. From the weight and size of links it seems like 8mm links, more like a bicycle chain than anything. I got a hi-viz waistcoat and some long motorcycle socks for tall boots. Was tempted by the tank bag with the sat nav indentation in it... Jacket look decent, but I've got plenty.

I don't understand the gloves though. Mesh top, but has insulate? And isn't waterproof.... Too warm for a summer glove, too cold and not waterproof for winter?

Moo, I considered the gloves as well, but like you couldn't really see them being worth my trouble. I've got three pairs already and wanted a replacement for my thickest warm winter pair that have seen better days.
I'm impressed with the gear I did buy though, and if what I've read is right and the boots are waterproof / heavy showerproof they'll be ideal as my AlpineStars aren't really suitable at this time of the year!

The boots are shit. Soles are thin as fuck - offering less protection than a pair of deck shoes. The sides and shin areas are poorly constructed and - if you've been wearing them all day - don't even think of leaving them in the bedroom. They will stink horrendously. I don't suffer from smelly feet, ever. Yet even my plates o' meat can't stand more than a day in these boots without beginning to hum in a quite malodorous fashion.

I have three pairs and never wear anything else. Despite there being a brand new pair of sidi couriers in the garage.

Aldi boots - might be shite, but I can't help loving them.

boots are ok but my last pair let water through after a few months and then let water through spectacularly despite me wearing trousers over them (instead of tucked in)

I always find the heel wears through and then the knobble on the side stand gets stuck in my heel.

but then I'm using them for an hour and a half every day in every weather.

I had a look today as well. the jacket and trousers looked good quality for the price. Hubby would have bought the jacket if the liner had been removable. As is usual there was nothing suitable for a stumpy woman.

I've always found the boots excellent for the price. Handle 18 months plus of everyday commuting and totally waterproof. Only downside is the soles aren't the most robust. It's quite a soft rubber that the little bobble on the side stand likes to wear out. At least on my SV anyway. For two years heavy use and 30 quid you can't go wrong though.

25 quid TCX boots new on ebay are probably better?

Mine have had a lot of abuse, 20k miles or so. The right zip broke but the velcro is adequate.

Went for a look today, was hoping to find helmets after the Lidl ones didn't fit my head but there weren't any on offer, I guess that's why nobody's talking about them!

The jacket and trousers seem sturdy but the lining not being removable put me off. There's also a distinct whiff of Buffalo about them, anyone know where they actually come from yet? The material and the little rubber bits on the pocket flaps look exactly like Buffalo gear to me..?
