Hi

I'm looking for a USB connector for my bike (BMW F650GS Twin)

https://www.advrider.co.za/images/BMW_F800GS_2008_p_232_webl.jpg

I believe that connection outlet is called Powerlet?

I believe this is what I am looking for but 30 Quid seems a lot for this little thing:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QMTECNO?psc=1

(Or is this not what I am looking for after all?)

Two USB would definitely be nice although currently I would only have use for one, so one would be OK too.

I've also found this guy but I'd prefer the big USB over the mini:

https://www.powerlet.com/product/powerlet-straight-plug-to-mini-usb-12-charging-cable/625

I like the cable solution very much though. So a regular size one with a cable would be ideal.

Those kind of connectors with the bent shape apparently break quickly because of the vibrations of the bike:

(This has probably been discussed around here already but I couldn't find anything in the search.)

edit: Maybe it's better to go for a regular cigarette adapter instead and then a USB adapter on that?

these sorts of things work surprisingly well.

attach it near the battery to live or directly to battery, depending on how you want to use it, and run USB cables up through the bike to the handlebars, or wherever else you need the power to be.

I actually have one of these, cheaper single version and havent had any problems.

Thanks, but I'd prefer to do a non-modification solution. Since I already have the plug available.
But I'm now certain that the cigarette adapter as a bridge is the better solution than going straight to USB. I will be doing a lot of traveling and I think it's good to have this universal plug in case I need to get a replacement on the road somewhere in a different country. A gas station might have cigarette lighter parts but maybe not USB. Just to be on the safe.

the 30 euro one (£22) for no effort tidy plug and play seems fine.
all the others will require some effort and could look a bit crap if you care about such things.

Excellent choice of bike. Thumbs Up

I went with this £12.50 dual USB DIN:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-USB-DIN-Adaptor-Compatable-With-Any-USB-Charged-Gadget-/321528900981?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4adc9dad75

It may or may not be putting out 2W, but it's not quite enough to keep my phone charged while running a satnav app all day. First world problems. Sad

Because of the paucity of DIN accessories in civilised longitudes, I also fitted a standard lighter socket, wired straight to the battery because metal.

However:

This is the one you refer to:

https://www.motobins.co.uk/library/94915.jpg

But there is also this one:

https://www.motobins.co.uk/library/94905.jpg

Are they both the same?

They look like they have different connectors but in the description it says pretty much the same thing. That seems strange to me. The one You suggest looks different from most which I have found so far (including that second one I linked)

What about this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171060167488?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It will fit your socket and gives you the choice between normal cig lighter plugs and usb.
