interesting find on the MT09 - in french with subs, the second half of the vid when they rally cross and then go enduro with standard suspension and some wet tyres makes for a good watch.

i really like the look of some of the special Mt09's but the iffy suspension puts me off.

anyway, enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvQAHA1PNK4

The production of that video blows away the amateurs at MCN.

Hate the styling of that bike, but other than that seems ok.

Take the comments about the suspension with a pinch of salt - a lot of the test riders in magazines commenting on it are used to riding hard on sportier machines that retail at double the price of the MT.

For me it is more than adequate for what I want to do, you can dial out the bounce more or less.

Experience: I own one

Thats interesting, the only other criticism that seems to get levelled at it is the snatchy throttle, whats your thoughts as an owner??

I'm totally in the mood for a change of bike this season, however, the thought of going back to a sports bike isn't filling me with any real excitement. very hard to ignore the MT09 as a package for the price, especially when the price of used bikes is so strong due to the ever increasing price of new bikes.

Genius, must have plum holders built in to the tank as massive testicles is a pre-req for riding that.

That was for the prologue for the Urzberg - don't need big suspension travel as it's pretty flat, but a flexible engine is useful.

Doing the main event DOES need both a long travel and considerable ability and bravery.

Well if it's anything like all the Yammys I've owned or tried (about seven now I think) then yeah, the first few percent when you twist on can be a bit snatchy/lead to jerky performance of the bike. Easiest way to clean it up is hold the clutch in just a tiny bit and release as you open the throttle with the revs going past 2K/2.5K as a rough guide as each bike needs a slightly different approach. Holding in the clutch a tiny bit can also cure the jerkiness at low speeds, i.e. when on tick over with the bike rolling forward 5-10mph no throttle. Useful when in slow moving traffic so you're not always lurching forwards. Lot of sensitivity around the biting point, can make slow control etc a lot smoother when you get used to the bike.

The throttle is snatchy at small openings in low gears, I cannot deny.

But I can confirm the FREE yamaha offical remap cures 99% of it and I now cannot notice it Thumbs Up

Not too keen on the variants but I think the original is a looker with a tail tidy and small screen

How adjustable is the suspension and how is it compared to the SV650? I've got an SV at the moment so I can get an idea that way...

Adjustable rebound and damping on forks - just the preload on the shock I believe.

I've got a K1 SV so no adjustability at all.. And the suspension is past it's best the forks dive at any opportunity but you get used to it.

You can't really compare the 2. I don't even feel like I miss the thump of the twin because the triple is so good

I've read a bit about them, differences are:

stiffer sprung
bigger fuel tank
more upright seating position
traction control

they are a canny attractive package.

I also live with one, the rear shock is a bit pogo stick, wacking up the damping to near max and the preload one off max calms it enough for me, many on the MT forum switch to ohlins or maxton shocks, the front i find for me well enough, again some swop out the cartridges for the well known makes.

Jerkiness coming out of a corner off a closed throttle yep, for sure, there are ways round it though, I tried the Yamaha reflash, a bit better but not enough, I currently use a G2 throttle tamer ( different throttle grip bit with different diameter tube to move the cables less for a given twist) and a liitle black box made by a guy called kev from Australia, a lot of the jerking occurs due to a over lean mixture in closed loop mode, the box adds a bit of rich to, the signal going to the ecu, transforms the bike especially in STD and B mode, I also have the Akrapovik exhaust in titanium which sounds the dogs, damned pricey though, they are cheaper now but I paid nearly 900 quid for mine back in late 2013.

I love my MT, it is as light as a 125, easy to ride, superbly grunty in any gear at any revs and I like the way it looks, won't be getting rid of ever.

Only an extremely heavy 125! Wink
Many more 'extreme' 125s are under half the weight.

When one of your other bikes is a Pan it feels like a 125. Very Happy

Awesome write up, thanks. I'm going to test ride an MT09 and a tracer next week, I've bought from the stealer before so i'm confident i should get a decent amount of time on the bike.

looking forward to it!

I'm sure riders of the Dullsville would tend to agree... Wink
